"In Her Honor" A champion for all. . Still feeling anxious, sad, and scared since we lost RBG. So I knew that Sylvia Robinson was a superhero. What I didn't know until last night was just how far was her reach, just how many lives she'd touched, or just how multi-faceted were her interests and accomplishments. It turns out this strong, mellow, quiet servant of the people was a Tai Chi champion who helped put the "International" in International Capoeira Angola and sold her house so she could squat in the gutted and plastic-covered Emergence Community Arts Collective while making sure that the refurbishing of the historic site was led by women (in keeping with its tradition). Sylvia's vigil was, quite fittingly, a multi-cultural, multi-lingual, interdenominational and quite spiritual celebration of her remarkable life and legacy. There was berimbau, drum, Tai Chi, poetry, and song, and I was even able to debut my songs "Sylvia" (based on "Gloria" by The Enchantments) and "Ms. Robinson" (based on "Ms. Jackson" by OutKast) with beautifully melodious accompaniment from all assembled. I am beyond humbled and honored to have been invited to host this celebration. We love you, Sylvia. You will truly live "forever-ever". #SylviaLives #inherhonor (at Bruce Monroe Community Garden)

Sylvia Robinson's vigil will be tonight at 7:30pm at Bruce Monroe Park, Georgia & Columbia NW. I know that we are sad to lose our beloved shaman, but it would be an even greater tragedy if we also lost the sense of community and activism which she embodied. Long live the ECAC!
