Iniopteryx

Iniopteryx — вимерлий рід хрящових риб, представник Iniopterygiformes. Походить з пенсильванської епохи кам’яновугільного періоду, приблизно 300 мільйонів років тому. Їхні скам’янілості були знайдені в Північній Америці, переважно у двох штатах: Огайо та Монтані. Загалом про цей рід відомо дуже мало.

Iniopteryx was a plump, small-sized chimaera-like fish. It is known that the species average size was around half a meter long in length. While the species had specialized spines and fins superficially similar to that of a flying fish, there is much speculation about whether it could glide like a flying fish, or was actually benthic.
