TWO SHOW REVIEWS INITTT
Good lord
I’ve just come back from seeing the matinee of “An American in Paris” and the 7:30 performance of “Ink” in London... Possibly the greatest two show day I’ve ever had???
I know most people are indifferent to “An American in Paris” but I frickin loved it. I’d seen the broadway bootleg like 2 years ago and I thought it was a pretty but tad generic kind of show... Turns out I love generic. It was so glorious. Leanne Cope was wonderful. I had a central view from the second row of the stalls (meaning I could bask in Ashley Day’s beauty).
But James Graham’s “Ink” was on another level. Probably the best thing I’ve seen this year... Well, it ties with All My Sons, Uncle Vanya and The Ferryman. Bertie Carvel is such a great character actor... I’m flawed at his ability to transform himself... His posture, voice, his everything is just so expertly conveyed and... he’s just wonderful. Richard Coyle was right up there with him. I guess they had it east working with such genius material... The scenic and lighting design was also A******. I can’t praise this show enough; if you’re in London you’d be a FOOOOL not to go.
