Got a second POTC block done in a week! #lucyboston #inklingo #benartex #paulanadelsternfabrics #potc #handpiecing @benartex_fabrics @linda_franz_inklingo #ilovetofussycut #ilovefussycutting #addictedtofussycutting
Lucy Boston block 5
I liked the original fabric, but the finished block just looks so-so to me. Is that the way this quilt goes? Are we destined to love our first two blocks and be unimpressed with the rest? My win on this block is that I did it with no seam-ripping or misplacement. That's a miracle.
POTC block 5 blue, brown, gold, cream
Lucy Boston block 4, but not without difficulties
This one finally came together correctly, though it took a few tries. How can I mess it up when I'm using non-directional prints? Several different ways, as it turns out!
POTC block 4 Rust, coral, greens, black meh
Fail X2
This is what I mean about being spatially inept.
The outer parts went together all right, but look what happened when I started putting the center in the third block. Four seams have to come out to fix this. It wasn't clear to me that it wasn't working until the fourth one. Ack! The center four pieces are together correctly as I did them first. I thought it would make more sense to me if I connected the outer pieces to each other before putting them onto the center cross, and the outers were easier this way. This can be fixed.
POTC block 3 Red, beige, pink, rust, green, bits of gold and blue
Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses
The Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses quilt drew me in at first sight. The pattern appeals to me with its challenge to give printed fabric an entirely different look through cutting and placement. I always refer to myself as "spatially inept" since I can't really visualize how something will turn out - how furniture will fit in a room, how clothing will fit, or how anything fits together. I have to just reason my way around many things that are just apparent to other. Brains are just wired differently, so my brain can comprehend instructions, do math, spell, read music, ..., but positioning anything in space is a mystery to me. So I love a challenge and this one is either going to be fun or not. Right now I don't know if I'm going to make a whole quilt or if my pieces will end up in the donation bag.
I'm planning to post the 24-piece cores of the blocks here as I complete them. I'd be foolish add the connecting parts at this point because I can't visualize how the blocks will look against other fabric. I'll just have to make them and then audition some connecting fabric.
Here are the two from this week:
POTC block 1 Reds, greens, browns
POTC block 2 Browns, green, golds
