headcanon question: how do you think The Delightful Children's interaction with 'normal' (non operative kids, teachers, townsfolk) people go? Do you think most people really do view them as 'delightful'?
[[ Yyyyyes they might? Haha-
I'm trying to recall how the adults act with them throughout all the episodes, and I wasn't paying too much attention to it so I apologize if I misremember-- but I don't really recall any exact instance where the adults treated them in any specific way..... so I'll definitely have to kind of speculate !!
To me... the Delightfuls are very smart, conniving little creatures. They would not be putting on that big, doe eyed act if it never works. They have this " Pretty, pretty, please *flutter lashes* " thing they do, and they must have learned to do that for a reason.
The adults of KND are weird. Nobody seems to notice quite how unnatural the children are except other children. I believe, if I recall, they are referred to as "teacher's pets" before, and Nigel seems to specifically resent them for being brown nosers to ALL adults, not just their dad-- which tells me they probably receive special treatment because of their kiss-up behavior that makes them annoying beyond just being "traitors" in his eyes. They're a textbook case of goody-two-shoes tattle-tales but turned up to 11.
But decommissioned or ordinary adults probably really DO think there's absolutely nothing wrong with them and their polite manners and helpfulness is just sweet and their kitschy little outfits are just darling. Precisely... the same way ordinary people don't remark on Father's pitch black appearance. When they and Father walk together, following neatly behind him like orphans following a nun, I would not be surprised if random moms remark how cute his kids are, only to "aww" at how the children bow and curtsy and giggle their thank yous in unison. The giggles are fake of course. Father knows they are fake, and he's like yup, they're my pride and joy >:)
They also deliberately do things to make the other kids look worse than them, they'll do anything to aid their reputation in the adult world, which partially helps their perception, too. ]]
