The #inkyscribe of #mountstreetgardens - I have spent my life living in a 4th floor walk up on #MountStreet #Mayfair opposite these gardens where I find repose with a #book & dream of history wearing my antique @Asprey tiara in what was once the #graveyard of St George’s Church #hanoversquare until 1842 when, following my #ancestor #danieloconnell #kingofireland successfully passing the #catholicemancipation Act 1829 & The #abolitionofslavery Act 1833 enabling the Jesuits to buy land in Mayfair & began building London’s high society Catholic Church so beloved by #OscarWilde #Edithsitwell & #evelynwaugh all of whom sought conversion here. The gardens were the graveyard for #Mayfair #aristocracy #writers #artists #composers #fashiondesigners & #eccentrics - including composer #ignatiussancho who was Born on a #slave ship & liberated by #LadyMontagu ⚜️Sancho became the toast of #Regency #society as composer & #dandy & close friend of our first black #queen - the Eccentric #QueenCharlotte ⚜️ Sancho & Queen Charlotte were both painted by #Gainsborough but whilst Sancho was painted black & the queen’s features were depicted as #African her skin was painted white💜 The gravestones were incorporated into the gardens & the gardens #haunted by the #ghosts of the #Eccentrics #authors & #artists of #Mayfairs #history from #handel & #fannyburney to #nancymitford ⚜️if you need repose from the grandeur of #fashionisart @londonfashionweek @pamhoggfashion @fashion4relief @fashionscout @malanbreton @londonfashionweek2019 take a seat amongst the ghosts of Mayfair past 1630-1842 ⚜️🥂🍾⚜️photograph @muirvidler (at Mount Street Gardens) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2bsOfOAX6g/?igshid=16taja0rmpwt5

I am a ghost wandering through a lost time when people fell in love at #GalleryOpenings whilst #pattiesmith strummed a song for #robertmapplethorpe My #weddinglist at #viviennewestwood #champagne was still imbibed from saucers in 1996, tea was never served in mugs & our news came via #LondonCabbies. Lad Culture reigned but our lives were a #RestorationDrama directed by #joshuacompston written by #SebastianHorsely #theRake while #courtesans #jibbybeane @annabelleneilson1 #issieblow sailed across the stage wearing a black Galleon by @philiptreacy I was the #InkyScribe transforming our lives into #fiction in my 5 #bookdeal with @hodderbooks I wrote on an Amstrad in my 4th floor walk up on #mountstreet #Mayfair overlooking the gardens of FarmStreet Church where #edithsitwell & #evelynwaugh converted & #OscarWilde had tried. I would look out on my 3 children playing croquet with my 2 husbands while Joshua Compston & #Sebastian Horsely stretched on my chaise. If we wanted food we’d drop a plastic bucket to the street below & have Scott’s Restaurant put a dozen oysters & a bottle of Ruinart A Hollywood studio optioned my life based on a @voguemagazine article I wrote in 1996 for #sallysinger @telegraph wrote, "O’Connell herself is every bit as glamorous as her fictional heroines….her hair piled high, she drips Vivienne Westwood jewellery, red #lipstick & charm. She is the queen bee incarnate.” It was still the London where everyone knew everyone. Our parents still spoke of rationing & 70s power cuts - sometimes we’d bump into Mummy & Daddy at @annabelsmayfair or passing the chemmie slipper at the Cleremontclub #sundayindependant #IRELAND wrote: “With the trendy London life & the glossy glamour, O’Connell herself is like an artistic statement, rather like Gilbert & George.” The #artworld was a world of its own a banner-lined street between Mayfair & Shoreditch. #feteworsethandeath in Hoxton Square staged #DamienHirst dressed as carnival clown creating splatter paintings on a potters wheel for £1 - my children threw wet sponges at #gilbertandgeorge in the sponge booth for £1 Tears stream down my body in rivulets & crystal pools, a necklace of grief (at Mayfair)

Ignoring @cnnstyle as I sip my champagne in the #ginbar of @stjameshotelandclub once a block of 34 flats where #ianfleming the #inkyscribe penned his books of the thrilling adventures of #cocktail aficionado #007 #jamesbond - I spent a charming #autumn living here & once lost a 5ct Diamond in the bar! Fortunately found & restored.
