Inspired by the unique marbled book covers of early radical texts, these 6 x 8ft marbled papers, depict three figures that loosely resemble “The Fates” or “Norns”— female figures who rule the destiny of gods and men. The title is a quote from “Parable of the Sower” a 1993 science fiction novel by American writer Octavia E. Butler. Set in the 2020s where society has largely collapsed due to climate change, growing wealth inequality, and corporate greed, Parable of the Sower centers on a young woman named Lauren Oya Olamina who possesses what Butler dubbed hyperempathy or "sharing" – the ability to feel pain and other sensations she witnesses... she begins to develop a new belief system, which she comes to call Earthseed. Earthseed is a religion based on the idea that "God is Change." “All that you touch You Change. All that you Change Changes you. The only lasting truth Is Change. God Is Change.” The central paradox of Earthseed is: “Why is the universe? To shape God. Why is God? To shape the universe.” — Octavia E.
