Ten years ago.
I was getting ready to go to school around 7am. You know, the typical normal early morning. I remember seeing the news about planes and such. I was 11, and did not realize what was going on. Got on the bus, got to school. Class was in session, little did we know, that the second twin tower would be hit too. When the second tower was hit, that was when it was declared a "terrorist attack". I remember the principal being on the speaker and informing everyone to stay in class and lock the doors. I remember when my teacher told us that we are all going to be sent back home right now. I remember walking through the halls of my elementary school and realizing how empty the yard was. How dead it looked. All the teachers were calm, of course, but now that I'm reflecting and reliving everything in my memory, I can see the fear, the worries, the anger in their eyes. The bus ride home was pretty quiet, usually the bus driver would play Radio Disney throughout the bus ride, but instead, it was tuned into the news. I remember quite vividly the words, "I can't believe it" "The first twin towered collapsed" "This is a terrorist attack" "There are people in the two towers and the officials cannot get in" "People are jumping and falling" "The Debris are taking over the streets" "People are running for their lives" "People are calling for help" "A child is bleeding" "A man is dying" "People are dying on the streets" and so on..
I remember that no matter how far you are with the channels, everything that was being broadcasted was the breaking news. Then the fear of the society heated up even more, when we all heard that a war is going to be declared. The most fearful words and news you can hear, was just said. I remember all the other high alert bomb threats that happened. I remember that the Golden Gate bridge was also a target. I remember all the check points at the bus stations, the bart stations, airports, everywhere. I just remembered, everything changed in the blink of an eye.
A lot of things changed since 9/11. Good and bad. Ever since that day, I remember it brought the whole community together. Everyone cared for people they don't even know, everyone cared for a stranger. It shook everyone's lives. Parents and their children got closer. Taught to really appreciate what we have. Showed that in any second, our lives can change completely. That day also brought tears & sorrows to everyone, even to people who had no relations to anyone who got hurt/who died/who did not survive. Somehow, we all were affected greatly.
Days and days had gone by, everyone seem to have accepted what had happened and moved on with their lives. Everyone's doing their own thing again, no one cares about the guy next to them or the girl by the bus stop. I guess what I'm tryna say is, why does everyone only notice or starts to care when something tragic happens. But I know I can never, or no one can ever answer that besides God himself. I will never understand or fully understand the way He mysteriously works.
But I do know that everyone who had suffered that day and everyone who did not survive went up to the Heavens and are in peace. Not in any pain, as if they never ever felt that feeling before.
Thank you for the people who sacrificed their lives. Sacrifice is an act where you are not afraid to put yourself or something at risk. A lot of people sacrificed that day. A lot of people gave themselves up so that the people they are saving can live. Some did not even know that they were doing such act. Whether they maybe a simple civilian or a soldier. Thank you.
For those family who lost somebody, who witnessed this tragic moment in person, I pray that you are coping well, that you have accepted what happened and is living life the way your loved ones would want you to live your life.
For the survivors, I pray that you are coping well and healing. Physically and emotionally.
And to everyone, always know and cherish every single day of your life. Cherish the moments you have with your loved ones. Cherish that you are blessed with another day of living, blessed that you can speak, talk, see, walk. Forgive and let go of the heavy heart. Because we have no rights to hold a grudge when God himself forgives the most sinful. Cherish being alive because tomorrow is never a guarantee. Life is not something you can borrow, or get back. Don't be bound of yesterday and tomorrow is not promised, so rejoice for God made today.
Sure we can all look back, this that, but don't let it haunt your down because even the flashbacks that you think hurts, can actually make you realize how much you've grown and how you became stronger from who you once were. Open your eyes. Breathe. and Live.
Lord, have mercy on us and the whole world, because this world is a crazy place. But even though it maybe a crazy place to live in, we all can pull through with God's guidance and protection. Just have faith in everything that happens in Him. & having Faith means trusting. So trust.
Forgive for this world does not know what Love really is, and in result they act the way they act. If the world just took the time and accepted God's love, this world would not end up the way it is..
9/11 changed the world, it was a lesson learned. & Faith, Hope, and Love will always prevail.
God Bless, everyone!
P.S. I will always have Faith, Hope, and continue to pray for World peace. It will happen, I believe it. It may not be now, or tomorrow, or next week. Only God's timing can tell.
