i remember a few months ago when the big “allosexual debate” popped back up again (because they always do, much like the “shoplifting debate” and the “cishet men doing drag debate”, because people refuse to take up an easily reinforced nuanced position that indicates critical thought) and people of color all over tumblr basically said in no uncertain terms that asexual, in the vein of hypersexual, was a label forced onto us via racial oppression because of the othering of our genders and sexualities
and white people lost their fuckin shit. including (i kid you not) fucking terfs and neonazis who somehow took offense at the idea that asexual as a label was not free of oppression
like, i distinctly remember the incredible conversation about the difficulties of people of color also identifying as asexual in combination with both their racial realities and various sexual identities
(including quote-unquote “straight” asexuals, because tbh, while i do believe that, as someone who has been both on the receiving end of and someone who has seen it happen several times, that there is in fact a tendency in some asexual people who are otherwise free of hegemonic oppression (that is, white cis middle to upper crust, heterosexual in their own words, abled) to demand access to resources they honestly do not need, these people are also overwhelmingly white and well off comparatively to everyone else, qualities which cannot be ignored if we’re talking about nuance)
i also distinctly remember several of the not-so-famous tumblr bloggers getting doxxed for saying these things by said terfs and neonazis, and the deafening silence of white ace tumblr after this was pointed out
how many times must i sit through a shitty post talking about “hey guys, you know what would be funny? a zombie plague that only affects people who fuck! also im totally not talking about AIDS what do you mean” only to watch it and its OP be immediately defended? how many times do i need to see some ahistorical prick apply allosexual to literally everyone who has ever fucked ever (including other asexual people, as if the idea of “gold star” wasn’t already disgusting enough), or forgetting that the idea of compulsory heterosexuality exists as its own thing, was created by lesbian discourse, and does not exist in such a manner that you could erase the “hetero” from the second word?
