Aboard the Vancouver Island Ferry by Dan Gildor

Standing at the front of the ferry between Horseshoe Bay on the mainland and Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, I felt like I was sailing on the Caribbean, with the sun and the wind in an eternal struggle to warm me and freeze me at the same time. Aboard are lots of people, each with their own story. There was also the occasional whiff of B.C. bud. What must it have been like to ply these waters in an schooner of old, discovering bays and coves and frustrated by all the miles of intricate shoreline that weaves in and out.
