#innocent sister

I’m reading “Innocent Sister” from Symphogear XDU since it has Serena finally playing a role

This is nice because I never really saw Serena have much of a character and her scenes have few too little

but after reading a few sections, I have a small summary ready hehe

1. Maria to Serena

Maria has been a vulnerable yet mature character but seeing her still beat herself up for Serena shows that she still feels bad for not saving her and she’s not worthy to see her again. Yet she still enjoys being with Serena and tries to be good to her as per her motherly nature.

2. Serena’s character

Serena’s character, although I haven’t finished the story, can be seen by how Maria remembers her. She was the one who faced the Nephilim. And she was the one who still fights in her world. This shows that she is courageous, especially in Maria’s view. I was proven right a few minutes later when I read Serena’s side until she met with the Gears. Despite the daunting task, she still stood against Nephilim because she knew that people were there for her, truly a courageous girl… for her age.

You see, Serena is young and as such for her age, she sees things in a naive light. She was always kept in the dark (even in the section I’m at, she doesn’t know about the parallel worlds NOR THAT SHE’S IN ONE yet) and almost blindly follows orders. In some (asian) cultures, this can be seen as a trait of a good child, but sadly it had costed her life in the main universe. Truly, despite her courage, she is truly an Innocent sister. *rolls credits

3. Contrast of the Cadenzavna Sisters

These sisters serve as strong contrasts to each other. Serena is courageous while Maria is “weak”. Maria is mature while Serena is naive. Serena is innocent while Maria has tainted her hands. But both view each other highly and they both try to fight hard for the other. Despite the differences, they love each other a lot and they fight with each other in mind.

I enjoyed analyzing Serena’s character and I cant wait to see more of this event. Symphogear’s events have some good characterization of the main characters of the event and I can’t wait to read more 🙏

6-15 Innocent Sister: Sisters

And again, sorry for the spam. This is the last event like this until Valkyries’ Summer in late June. I do plan on typing out the scripts of the EX quests and the Gjallarhorn prologue before then. For now, I rest.

Maria: "As soon as I had the chance, I received permission from Commander Kazanari to go to see her in the hospital."

Maria: "The moment I walked through the door, Serena greeted me with a bright, happy smile."

Maria: "I couldn't help but mirror that smile, and the feelings behind it."

Maria: "It also made me swear to myself that I would never lose her smile ever again."

Maria: "A month has passed since that incident."

Maria: "Serena's injuries have mostly healed, and everything  is back to normal."

Maria: "Or at least, that's what I thought..."

Kirika Akatsuki: "Serena! Quit clinging onto Maria like that!"

Shirabe Tsukuyomi: "She's our sister too, you know! You can't hog her all to yourself!"

Serena: "I don't wanna! Sis is all mine today, and that's final!"

Maria: "S-Serena! Please!"

Hibiki Tachibana: "Dang, everyone wants a piece of Maria-san!"

Tsubasa Kazanari: "Still, I'm surprised Serena was allowed to come all the way here, having only just recovered."

Genjuro Kazanari: "Apparently she was extremely depressed after Maria-kun left to head home."

Genjuro Kazanari: "It seems Prof. Nastassja would only let Serena come here once she was certain she was completely healed."

Hibiki Tachibana: "I know exactly how she feels!"

Hibiki Tachibana: "I've been hospitalized so many times. It gets real lonely by yourself, doesn't it?"

Hibiki Tachibana: "I couldn't tell you how many times I called Miku just to have a chat!"

Miku Kohinata: "Mainly just to talk about food, actually."

Chris Yukine: "That sounds about right..."

Hibiki Tachibana: "Oh, don't be so bashful, Chris-chan. You practically called me twice a day the last time I was in there!"

Hibiki Tachibana: "It was super sweet of you to come visit so much, too!"

Chris Yukine: "Wha-- Hey! Sh-Shut up! You are such an idiot!"

Tsubasa Kazanari: "Hehe... Looks like those two are getting along as well as ever."

Maria: "Say, Serena? Would you mind easing up a little? That's starting to hurt..."

Serena: "Aw, but you smell so good, Sis..."

Kirika Akatsuki: "Grrr! She's not your exclusive property, y'know!"

Shirabe Tsukuyomi: "We're joining in too, Kiri-chan!"

Kirika Akatsuki: "You got that right!"

Maria: "Wh-What on earth do you two think you're doing?! Let go of me!"

Serena: "Quit it, you two. You're bothering her!"

Kirika Akatsuki: "Us? Ha! That's rich!"

Shirabe Tsukuyomi: "Yeah, you're going to have to let go first."

Serena: "No way!"

Serena: "I'm never gonna let go..."

Serena: "Because she's my one and only big sister!"

Serena: "...That's enough."

Dr. Adolph: "Excuse me?"

Serena: "You hurt my sister..."

Serena: "You made her sad..."

Serena: "You made her cry... And I'm not going to put up with it any longer!"

Dr. Adolph: "Have you even been listening? She's not your real--"

Serena: "She's the only one I have!"

Maria: (I may not be her real older sister... But right now, I'm th eonly one who can save her!)

Dr. Adolph: "This must be her special ability... Don't tell me she can defeat the complete Nephilim?!"

Kirika Akatsuki: "What's this light?! It's almost blinding!"

Shirabe Tsukuyomi: "It's... What a miracle looks like..."

Maria: "She took on my burden. I'm the one who's being protected again..."

Serena: "No... That's not it, Sis."

Serena: "I feel your power. It's enveloping me... Protecting me."

Serena: "It's so warm, and gentle..."

Maria: "Oh, Serena..."

Dr. Adolph: "This can't be because of their bond, could it?! How could such a stupid, nebulous thing--"

Maria: "My Superb Song's energy is being channeled into Serena!"

Serena: (That rainbow light I saw back then... It was everyone's bonds! This is what bonds look like!)

Serena: "And this..."

Serena: "This is our phonic gain... The power of love between sisters... This is the power of our bond!"

Dr. Adolph: "What?! What's going on?! This isn't supposed to-- Aaargh!"

Serena: "It's a power you couldn't possibly understand."

Maria: "This power... It's so warm! It's flowing into me from Serena!"

Kirika Akatsuki: "It IS warm! I can feel it flowing into me, too!"

Shirabe Tsukuyomi: "The pain of Nephilim's rage and the Karma Noise's curse are fading away..."

Kirika Akatsuki: "Serena... Did you do this?!"

Shirabe Tsukuyomi: "I can get up... I can fight again!"

Kirika Akatsuki: "We can do this! Let's go, Shirabe!"

Maria: "Shirabe! Kirika!"

Shirabe Tsukuyomi: "Nephilim's weakning... Serena took its power and gave it to us!"

Kirika Akatsuki: "I've never felt so alive!"

Dr. Adolph: "No... The complete Nephilim's power, the Karma Noise's power... She took it all? How?!"

Serena: "Nephilim was never complete!"

Serena: "Because nothing is ever truly complete!"

Serena: "Lean on me..."

Serena: "And take this power!"

Serena: "I'm here for you to lean on, for as long as I live!"

Serena: "Tsukuyomi-san, Akatsuki-san, Mom, me, Sis... We're family!"

Dr. Adolph: "But... But how are humans capable of this?!"

Serena: "Everyone... Will you fight by my side? I want to show him what the power of family, of bonds, looks like."

Maria: "Is that really okay with you, Serena? I'm not your--"

Serena: "Sis... I'm so sorry!"

Maria: "Huh?!"

Serena: "I knew the truth."

Serena: "Mom told me during the bait operation briefing."

Nastassja: "This is a dangerous operation, but orders can't be disobeyed. I know you understand that perfectly well."

Serena: "Yes... But in return, can I ask you just one thing?"

Nastassja: "If it offers any consolation, I'll answer any question you have."

Serena: "Sis... The sister who came back for me..."

Serena: "She's not my real sister, is she?"

Nastassja: "Serena... You knew all along, didn't you?"

Serena: "I had a feeling..."

Serena: "But since I knew seven years had passed, I didn't question it. I didn't want to believe it."

Nastassja: "I didn't want to cause you any more pain."

Serena: "So then, Sis... She's actually..."

Dr. Adolph: "What are you talking about?! No matter how many Superb Songs you sing, they cannot surpass the might of--"

Maria: "Stay out of it!"

Dr. Adolph: "Eeek!"

Maria: "We'll never forgive anyone--"

Serena: "Who dares try to break our bond!"

Kirika Akatsuki: "You've got us too! We may not be related, but our bonds are just as strong as any other family's!"

Shirabe Tsukuyomi: "Our bonds are eternal!"

Serena: "This is the power of family!"

Maria: "... I can feel her song. I can do this!"

Maria: "Serena!"

Serena: "My song will pave the way to a new tomorrow!"

Dr. Adolph: "Th-That... can't be possible! My complete Nephilim... It was completely wiped out!"

Dr. Adolph: "Don't tell me it was that black Noise... Was it hindering Nephilim's completion?"

Dr. Adolph: "This... This can't be happening!"

Maria: "It's over, Adolf." [1]

Serena: "Yeah, we finally... Finally..."

Maria: "...Serena?"

Maria: "Serena!"

Kirika Akatsuki: "What?! No!"

Shirabe Tsukuyomi: "Get a hold of yourself, Serena!"

Maria: "Don't tell me the Superb Song backfired?!"

Maria: "Serena! Open your eyes!"

Maria: "Serenaaaaaa!"

Nastassja: "I see you're all here."

Maria: "......"

Shirabe Tsukuyomi: "Okay, Mom."

Nastassja: "Firstly, Dr. Adolf is currently being interrogated by the US and Japanese governments due to this incident."

Kirika Akatsuki: "Now that's what I wanted to hear!"

Nastassja: "Looking over the course of his career, I feel that it's very clear why he was capable of such crimes."

Kirika Akatsuki: "Huh? His whole reasoning was just that he wanted to rule the world, wasn't  it?"

Nastassja: "At a previous facility he worked at, there was a Noise attack that took many lives. 128 of them, in fact."

Nastassja: "Of those 128, the 50 who weren't immediately turned into ash died as a result of the chaos of the attack."

Nastassja: "Those who didn't fall to their deaths got crushed in the resulting stampede of people trying to feel."

Nastassja: "He was powerless in the face of that overwhelming destruction... That's what drove him to such lengths."

Nastassja: "He wasn't a casualty, but he was still a victim of the terror the Noise inflicted."

Shirabe Tsukuyomi: "But instead of bringing peace, he just created more chaos."

Kirika Akatsuki: "Well, we'll just have to eradicate all the Noise to make up for that."

Nastassja: "Now, thanks to our retrieval of Document F, each relic research facility it mentioned is being investigated."

Kirika Akatsuki: "Hey, what does the 'F' in Document F stand for?"

Nastassja: "It most likely stands for Frontier, rather than the name of the person who wrote it."

Nastassja: "Frontier is the general name for research conducted by Dr. John Wayne Vercingetorix, before his death."

Kirika Akatsuki: "What? HIM?!"

Shirabe Tsukuyomi: "Ugh... So he's the cause of all this..."

Nastassja: "Is something the matter?"

Shirabe Tsukuyomi: "...It's nothing."

Maria: "......"

Nastassja: "Maria, I know my words may not bring you any comfort..."

Nastassja: "But please... Trust us to fix this."

Maria: "Mom..."

Nastassja: "Serena took on the burden of two Superb Songs. It's a miracle she's even alive."

Shirabe Tsukuyomi: "I wouldn't worry about her. She's tough."

Kirika Akatsuki: "Yeah! I'm sure she'll be just fine! Her link coefficient is even higher than ours, remember?"

Maria: "Thank you, girls. You're right. Serena will be just fine."

Nastassja: "Her link coefficient and recovery abilities are impressive, but there's one more thing that saved her."

Maria: "Huh?"

Nastassja: "The light that radiated from your Airget-lamh... I believe its power saved Serena."

Maria: "You mean, when our Airget-lamhs resonated..."

Nastassja: "Yes. I think it was you, Maria. Serena owes her life to you, her older sister."

Maria: "I... protected Serena..."

Nastassja: "That's how powerful the bond between you two is. It's a bond that transcends worlds."

Maria: "No... Don't tell me we were too late!"

Nastassja: "Urgh... Maria, Serena. You came for me? Don't worry, I'm okay. More importantly, Nephilim's still--"

Maria: "I'm not letting you out of my sight! You need to rest."

Serena: "I'll go and check if the medical room is still okay!"

Dr. Adolph: "So, you're still alive? My, how improbable." [2]

Maria: "You!"

Dr. Adolph: "I think it's about time you started accepting reality. Now, I see Prof. Nastassja is looking worse for wear."

Dr. Adolph: "And here I thought her unbalanced diet was making her look pale recently, heheh..."

Nastassja: "So you still intend on feeding Nephilim more relics, Dr. Adolf?"

Nastassja: "Can't you see that Nephilim is beyond your control?!"

Dr. Adolph: "Now! Consume all the relics you can eat, my precious Nephilim!"

Serena: "We're going to keep you safe, Mom."

Dr. Adolph: "Fools, her life is of no concern to me. Though saying that, I can't say she didn't have her uses."

Dr. Adolph: "By keeping her alive... I was able to attract Nephilim's next meal."

Nastassja: "So you used me as bait?!"

Maria: "How much more despicable can you get?!"

Dr. Adolph: "Hah! If one's character really mattered, the world would be overflowing with saints."

Dr. Adolph: "Exploiting your fatigue, using you as bait... It was all to ensure I'd triumph. It's nothing personal."

Maria: "I have a hard time believing that!"

Serena: "Dr. Adolf... I can finally see you for who you really are."

Dr. Adolph: "Enough! Nephilim is nearing its final form, a form that shall crush all uncertainty! Now, flatten them!"

Maria: "This twisted obsession of yours ends now!"

Serena: "Aaah!"

Maria: "Serena!"

Serena: "Ngh... I'm okay..."

Maria: "Nephilim's tough, all right... But we're tougher!"

Dr. Adolph: "How are you still standing?! My calculations predict your Gear should be well past its breaking point!"

Maria: "Heh... You really think resilience is something you can measure with numbers?"

Dr. Adolph: "Grr... How can you rely on such uncertainty? Humans truly are abominable... Nephilim, what are you doing?!"

Dr. Adolph: "You must feed on more relics! Eliminate all uncertainty!"

Maria: "Are you okay, Serena?"

Serena: "Yeah. I have you by my side, after all."

Serena: "Nephilim doesn't frighten me anymore. Nothing's scary when you're with me!"

Serena: "So let's do this... Together!"

Maria: "You said it! Let's take this thing down!"

Maria: "Raaah!"

Serena: "Yaaaaaaaaah!"

Dr. Adolph: "Nephilim is truly suffering... Is it still not complete?! I have to hurry and..."

Dr. Adolph: "...Heh. Pffft, ahahaha! Well, would you look at that!"

Maria: "What's so funny?!"

Dr. Adolph: "It looks like my reinforcements arrived before yours did! How fortunate!"

Dr. Adolph: "And it's all thanks to the phonic gain amplification device I activated beforehand!"

Maria: "An amplification device?!"

Serena: "Sis, look!"

Maria: "I see... A Karma Noise was lured here by the amplified phonic gain!"

Serena: "Aaah!"

Maria: "Agh! Serena!"

Serena: "I... I can still fight. But Sis, you--"

Maria: "I have some fight left in me yet. We're going to have to use our last resort, Serena!"

Serena: "Okay!"

Maria: "If we can at least stop its growth--"

Serena: "We can do this!"

Dr. Adolph: "Obstinate girls... Stand aside, Nephilim! The black Noise will--"

Serena: "Oh no you don't!"

Maria: "I hope you're ready for this, Nephilim!"

Maria: "Damned Noise! Get out of the way!"

Maria: "I'll cover you, Serena! Now, break through to Nephilim!"

Serena: "You got it, Sis!"

Dr. Adolph: "Yes, indeed... Now, Nephilim! Feast!"

Maria: "It'll even feed on Karma Noise?"

Serena: "L-Look... Nephilim's..."

Dr. Adolph: "Finally... It is complete! Total power, and total peace!"

Maria: "No way... It's become so powerful!"

Serena: "Is this from the relics Mom said it consumed?!"

Dr. Adolph: "To be honest, even I don't know which one of those countless relics did this."

Dr. Adolph: "But honestly, who cares how you get there?! Such completeness... So wholly complete!"

Maria: "Guh!"

Maria: (The last time we took one of these on, we had the power of six X-Drives on our side.)

Maria: (There probably isn't a chance in hell that Serena and I alone can beat it.)

Maria: "But even so... There's no way I'm giving up now!"

Serena: "I was the one who awakened this thing... So it's up to me to put it back to sleep!"

Maria: "U-Urgh!"

Serena: "Aaargh!"

Serena: "N-Ngh... Sis... What is this pain?!"

Maria: "This is Nephilim's rage... Serena, if this combines with the Karma Noise's curse, we'll be done for!"

Dr. Adolph: "Hmph. Now that you're complete, these relics are irrelevant. Do with them what you will, Nephilim."

Maria: "I won't let it hurt you, Serena!"

Kirika Akatsuki: "You'll die before you touch her!"

Shirabe Tsukuyomi: "Maria! Serena!"

Shirabe Tsukuyomi: "We... barely made it... Huff... Huff..."

Kirika Akatsuki: "Thank god... we made it in time!"

Serena: "Tsukuyomi-san! Akatsuki-san!"

Maria: "The curse is too much for you to handle in your Ignited states! What were you thinking?!"

Shirabe Tsukuyomi: "It's not like... there was any other way... to make it in time..."

Kirika Akatsuki: "If it can save you two... then it was a risk worth taking... Haha..."

Serena: "Are you okay?!"

Kirika Akatsuki: "I can barely move my toes..."

Shirabe Tsukuyomi: "It's taking everything I have... just to keep my eyes open."

Maria: "Honestly... You girls barely made it out alive again... I"ll deal with things from--"

Natassja: "In fact, this facility was built for that very purpose. He likely acquired the paper before coming here."

Maria: "And then the minute you wake up, they have you fighting Noise alone, and activating Nephilim again."

Maria: "They made you face Nephilim a second time, even though you could've died!"

Serena: "What was the meaning of just running off like that?"

Serena: "I did leave a note..."

Dr. Adolph: "I prefer peace and certainty to uncertain, idealistic theories. There's nothing more to it."

Serena: "But Mom said you worked so hard to make me better, Dr. Adolf..."

Dr. Adolph: "Well, obviously. Only wielders can activate Nephilim. I couldn't have come this far without you, could I?"

Serena: "So... So I was just a pawn to you?"

Hibiki Tachibana: "We can't escape, and we can't win... but we can't lose, either. We still have one more option."
