So, I've got questions about why being an inntinsic is an executionable offense. Big Onyx Storm spoilers, so the rest is below the cut.
For the last two books, we've known that manifesting inntinsic as a signet is a death sentence. And I had assumed it was a Navarre thing. There isn't a security clearance high enough to ensure that random 1st years aren't just revealing the venin secret.
And this has been discussed in critiques online. YouTuber Krimsonrogue pointed out that it seemed foolish to kill off an intelligence asset when the sensible thing is figure out how to control it.
But what if it's not a human law, but a dragon law?
Sgaeyl protected Xaden, not even telling Tairn. But Sgaeyl does what Sgaeyl wants. She's a law unto herself. And that last POV chapter? She's choosing Xaden over dragonkind. Or at least, she's taking the risk that he can still be saved.
(A moment to appreciate Xaden. That man inspires loyalty from his women.)
But on the isle with the irids, they accused Andarna of gifting Violet a signet even more dangerous than lightning. And we learn later that it's dream-walking, a form of inntinsic.
Xaden is quick to point out that as harmless and passive as it seems, it's as dangerous as his ability to read intentions. Buy why do the irids, who have shunned human contact for centuries, think it's dangerous?
Is there a reason that dragons don't want this particular expression of magic to manifest? Why?
