you've successfully gotten me interested in prodigy. do you have any prodigy comic recs for someone who's never read a single issue of x-men? 😅
Hiya. You might find my take on him to be a bit... touched up. X-Men stories are comics' greatest superhero soap opera, so if you feel lost in any of these, that's normal.
1) His proper intro is New Mutants (2003) Issue 4, if you want a sense. He's in the book for the remaining handful of issues, if you want to keep reading.
2) New X-Men (2004). Continues where (1) left off. Lots of 2000s high school drama. You can read issues 6 - 11 in a pinch. The series goes into a lot of crossovers and old lore after #15 , so watch out/skip.
3) Young Avengers (2013, he joins in issue 6) Kooky, quippy, multiverse adventures. He's left the school. He comes out in a way that's fun and messy. Content warning: 2010s bowl cut hair depictions.
4) Black Panther (2018, #24) He plays a really cool role here. Fun action story with a lot of characters across Marvel.
5) Marvel Voices Pride (2021) cute one-shot story in there.
- He also features in X-Factor (2020. Divisive, themes of assault, I didn't finish it) and Dead X-Men (not friendly to non-X-readers, so you might not be able to follow). He most recently stars in NYX (2024, has some good moments, wears cargo booty shorts for some reason).
A good reference is Ash Alleyne's (no relation) guest spot on the Cerebro podcast, I think that's a good listen.
