I needed a break.
Taking a walk to the dog park down the road. The day is beautiful, the sun is out, the clouds spread out perfectly along the baby blue canvas above. A cooling breeze to whisk through my wild black curls. Sunshades on to protect the sensitivity of my gray eyes.
I linger outside the fence with my hands behind my back, fingers lace together, shoulders square. I watch the dogs cheerfully bounce over and around the sprinkler, the owners laughing. Some of the dogs rolled in the mud, others were playing fetch. One or two of them were roughhousing. It’s perfect.
I miss having a four-legged companion.
I then shift my gaze over to an American Staffordshire Terrier - better known as a breed that falls under the umbrella term ‘Pitbull’. It was black and white just like the one I had. My heart sinks just a little bit.
It’s in a hunter's position, body close to the ground, ears folded back, eyes locked on its target. I follow its gaze which lands upon a Goldendoodle frolicking in the grass field.
When I look back at the patient hunter, I notice another pulled up by its side. I internally chuckle, competition at the dog park. Cute.
I can see the first challenger glance at its opponent then back at its target; Suddenly they were off! Making an inroad to the unexpecting Goldendoodle, both struggling to keep the lead!
Then, out of nowhere, they both slid at first then began to tumble over, and over, and over again! When they got back up they were COVERED in mud. I couldn’t help but hysterically laugh at the incident, truly feeling the moment.
I miss when life was this s i m p l e...
