Insalubrious
#insalubrious #Wednesday #WordWednesday #wordoftheweek Definition of insalubrious: not conducive to health. (Unhealthy, maybe?) Merriam-Webster also suggests unwholesome as a closely related word. Eating fatty pork and chicken skin is insalubrious dining.

(aetheric records)
Moist knew that generally goblins hid out in caves and insalubrious places that humans didn't bother about, but now, when suddenly they were being treated as people, they had found their element which was generally the sky.

Guitar
Channels
These were the guitar channels. The guitars in this track were slightly harder to control and so various buses were used for different purposes. The 57a was also overdubbed as this mic appeared to add an extra layer within the track that filled out more mids.
SM57 EQ
Again, to control the low end, a high pass filter was applied. This was a lot heavier than the previous song as there appeared to be a lot more within this guitar tone. A slight boost was applied to the high end to bring more air within to the tone. A boost was made above 1kHz to add further contrast to the mix as the frequency range appeared to like high end frequencies. This boost added more clarity.
421 EQ
The 421 was reduced at around 270Hz. This decision was used to make more room for the bass. Turning the analyser on proved useful in terms of determining the area in which these instruments were fighting over.
Compression
A light compression was then applied to tighten up the guitar.
Automation
Panning automation was used to add more colour to the stereo image. This appeared to maintain interest within the repetitive areas of the song
A reverb automation was used on the NT2 room mic for the last section of the song. This was to make this section seem bigger than the previous sections as the guitar parts were driving this part of the song.
This track shows before the reverb:

This track is the NT2 reverb track. A heavy amount has been applied. Levelling this into the mix allowed further control over the amount added.

Finally, this track shows the NT2 reverb added to the mix. The change appears to have added a subtle boost to the mix of this section without overpowering it.

Bass
EQ
Heavy bass EQ was applied as this took up a lot of space within the mix. The main issue was that it got lost during the distorted sections, It also buried the kick and so a lot was taken out between 100-200Hz to free up space for the kick to come through.
Compression
Compression added further control over the dynamic range which added some balance towards the low end of the mix. It also gave more clarity to the bass within the track, while further separating it from the guitars.
Effect: Distortion
Distortion also applied. It was found that this added a gritty, bright layer toward the bass, Creating an unusual tone gave the bass further separation and allowed the track to fill in the depth of the song.
Drums
Channels
This picture shows a similar layout to the previous song. Noise gates were used to free up more space within the mix. Parallel compression and trigger 2 were again, applied to add punch and power to the rhythmic elements. These gave more attack and power to the overall mix and further supported the power behind the compositional aspect of the guitar riffs.
