He could have easily brought a knife or gun or rope in there, he could have strangled him with one hand, he could have even stomped him to death but Ruben chose to smother Niall by covering his mouth to shut him up forever and push back all the awful truths he could utter. It's always been about the things Niall says and his words, or what he could say, or what he doesn't say. The night Ruben's father was shouting at their window, the exam, in court, the money, Mona cheating, etc. Him making money by telling Ruben's story in his books. "It wasn't hers to give away" in reaction to Mona talking about his infertility but what could *Niall* do with the kind of secrets Ruben's told him? Niall's words ruined their last chance at happiness (from Ruben's perspective at least) in a moment Ruben felt lighter than perhaps ever. Even Baird - bard - poet is Niall's. Ruben's the rolling hills but Niall is the storyteller who weaves the threads of their lives. And now he'll be silent forever.
