Week two already! Okay, @inscrutableblueeyes @getbacktoblogwarts @pinkandyellowroses, here are my answers. Hope to see yours soon! =)
Favorite episodes (or pieces of the Doctor/Rose EU*)?
What is an adventure/scenario that you wish we could have seen the Doctor and Rose in?
1. I think I’m going to have to answer this by genre, because I have too many favorites.
Thriller: The Runaway Bride. I almost put this one down for Holiday, but what I really love about this episode is the fast paced adventure of it. It’s funny, it’s creepy, it’s high energy, and of course Tennant/Tate never let you down when they share the screen.
Comedy: New Earth. Seriously. I mean, that scene when Cassandra first possesses the Doctor is reason enough, but I am constantly quoting the “Living inside a bouncy castle” and “Nice rear bumper” lines. I’ve seen the episode a million times, and it never stops being funny.
Drama: Fires of Pompeii. Borders on comedy, but I love how much they reveal about Donna’s big heart and the Doctor’s internal conflict between his own compassionate nature and the obligation he feels to uphold the laws of time. It’s really just a brilliant episode with so many layers.
Horror: Waters of Mars. The design of the watery monsters was a stroke of genius. So creepy and horrifying! That entire episode is a gut twister. And the way you see the beginning of the Doctor’s breakdown in this episode, with his almost maniacal determination to thwart history. You just really get that huge sense weariness he’s experiencing. It really plays well into the end of DT’s tenure.
Feel Good: Partners in Crime. This almost made the All-Time cut. I just love Tennant and Tate together. Comedy genius. It’s such a fluffy, fun episode with laughs aplenty and you just want to squish them in giant hugs by the end.
Holiday: Christmas Invasion. I think it’s one of the Holidy episodes that has plenty of thrills, but still really maintains the Holiday vibe throughout. And the fact that it ends with Christmas dinner and party poppers seals the deal.
Pure Sci-Fi: 42. Because burn with me.
Retro Earth: The Unicorn and the Wasp. Okay, I am a *huge* fan of the old timey British murder mystery shows. Foyle’s War, the old Miss Marple stuff with Joan Hickson, and others that I can’t think of at the moment. Anyway, this episode completely epitomizes those shows. It’s ridiculously satisfying, like eating a big bowl of pasta or something. Oh, and the poison scene. ROFLMAO every time.
Two-Parter: Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways. Gosh, there is just so much heart in these episodes, and they way it cements the relationship between Rose and the Doctor... her fearless devotion, the way he is continually amazed and surprised by her... feels, man. Feels.
Sentimental Favorite: Rose. It’s just so quirky and fun, and the dialog is (excuse the pun) fantastic. It really is. They were brilliant.
All time: Midnight. The idea, the writing, the brilliant performances, and the utter freakiness of this episode, plus the way they boldly chose to leave it unresolved. Just the best. I thought the writing was extremely confident, the plot was well conceived, it was outrageously creative, and it had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Seriously, that episode is a masterpiece.
2. Okay, scenarios I would have liked to have seen the Doctor and Rose in... hmm... I hadn’t really thought of this a whole lot, but I would have liked more episodes like New Earth. I loved those quirky, light, fun episodes that are all about cheesy humor and witty, snappy dialog. Episodes that aren’t afraid to go all-out campy with the monsters. Episodes that don’t take themselves too seriously, but are all about the laughs and the thrill ride. The dramas and thrillers are great too (hell, my all time favorite is a thriller), the RTD era of Doctor Who was to me the embodiment of campy humor and compelling characters. So those were my favorite types of episodes overall. I also would have loved to see more personal moments and downtime between the Doctor and Rose. It would have been great to see more of the Tardis, too. Probably not really in the spirit of the show, though. I mean, is there such a thing as downtime with the Doctor? LOL! I really would have loved a tour of the Tardis during Nine/Ten’s reign though. It was nice that we got to see the wardrobe, but I wanted more. Limited screen time and budget, I suppose...
Wow, this post is absurdly long. Sorry, guys! One of my traits is I’m not much of a talker in person, but I often don’t know when to shut up in written format.
Can’t wait to see your responses! =)
