So I went voting in a 90's bikers' gang outfit
I think the initial political message was lost somewhere between "damn I look good" and "omfg this leather jacket has inside pockets I'm never using a purse again"

Upon Waking in South Korea
Perhaps the sleep on the 11 hour flight was enough to throw off my whole being, even a week later. Seven hours out is a great way to deal with interminable air time. It helps pass the time and the shock is diminished. There is something quite wrong with being half a day away from the time you know, with going to bed when everyone you know is waking up. You wonder who you are filling with insomnia...
And your dreams are painted with sweat & dust, completely mind-numbing. The fever of unpasteurized cheese naps is replaced with... something wholly alien. The dream that keeps coming back is the same drama: the flight to Korea is leaving in half an hour, I am nowhere near my bags, I have to abandon everything I prepared, get on that plane...
Dream thoughts are funny because you can be pushed to the edge of anxiety & everything remains peachy, or the smallest details will scare the bejesus out of you. In the case of missing luggage, I'm terrified, whereas awake I realize there are worse things. All that matters is the inside jacket pocket where my passport & letters are quiet. Other things are just things.
Awake, I have to sip water and look around... Figure this is the reality, no longer the dream. This room is too big, the bed is mammoth, the windows are enigmas of sliding panes & secret cracks, dust is ubiquitous, the smell of the pipes is so strong it changes the pressure in your inner ear, and the heat rises from the floor, as though there is a fire downstairs.
And I don't understand a word anyone says. And everything costs a thousand times the usual coin. And it is apparently always dusk, the sun is steadily setting.
A year ago was very real. Now I'm not sure what this is. It is, it exists. I am coming to see what is a dream & what is not. But when I'll be absolutely certain...
