In 2012, I was cast as Rose Hsu, in the Joy Luck Club. This story, by Amy Tan, focuses on four Chinese American immigrant families in San Francisco, follows their journey in America. Through the novel, and later adapted feature film and play, you follow the stories/memories and experiences of mothers who immigrated to the United States. You see the new opportunities their daughters have, and how they make their lives their own. 💜 In 2012, this incredible show, performed at @vintagetheatreproductions brought together people from all walks of life, but who became family. 🥰 I close my eyes and see us all hanging out backstage, or in the dressing room, talking about our heritage and our own connections to this story. It was backstage that the idea of an Asian Theatre company was born. From there #TheatreEspritAsia was formed!! The first theatre to be dedicated to Pan Asian artists, in Colorado. The theatre had a wonderful run for five or six years, but when a founding board member retired, it led to an uncertain future. 😰 Luckily, the community and many others voiced that they did not want to see the theatre close. 💜🙏🏻 I believe, God, brought this opportunity into my life. Responding to an email about the future of #TEA was the best thing that happened to me. A few months later, I’m sitting in on planning meetings. Listening and talking, as we discuss the future and what’s next. 😍 This artistic board of three #JoyLuckClub cast members and two original Theatre Esprit Asia board members (one of which was one of the original founders of TEA), all came together to form @insight_colab!!! 🥰💜😍🙏🏻 It is our MISSION!! Founded by Pan Asian American artists, #InsightColabTheatre spotlights inclusive, innovative, and inspiring works to illuminate our shared human experience. VALUES: 1.
