not to start discourse or anything but is there a reason you draw human! Aku white instead of Asian or with green skin? (I'm Asian myself so I was wondering???)
I don’t draw him white anymore actually haha. The main reason I used to do it is because I wasn’t sure how bone structure and eyes for different races worked, so I just stuck with something I knew. Interestingly enough, I’m half asian myself but don’t really have a great understanding of them. It’s weird.
However, I got tired of looking at my old drawings of him as white. It just looked wrong to me. So I said fuck it and started drawing him the way I do now, even though I’m not 100% sure I do it justice.
I’m trying to get better at drawing him the right way though, and that’s what’s important. xD
As for why I don’t use green skin.. well.. because my human aku is mostly used for fanfiction, and fanfiction is less of a visual medium, I took some liberties. Besides, I kind of explain it away as Aku learned some new tricks the longer he was in the future with Jack– mostly out of a necessity to survive. That point will be further demonstrated later when Aku uses another of his new powers (ice magic) to further the illusion of his disguise.
Besides, I don’t like green skinned Aku. :P Even if that’s canon. It’s like a dead giveaway to someone like Jack who is so used to Aku’s usual color palette.
Thanks for asking. :3 Hope I answered your question!
EDIT: And actually wait. There’s another reason I didn’t draw him the proper race. Because I am pale as shit despite the fact I’m half asian, I was afraid I’d get people jumping down my throat about drawing races other than my own wrong. Like “OHHHH WHAT’VE YOU DONE YOU DREW THEM WRONG HOW DARE U??!!1!!??!!111ONE????!”
Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned about tumblr, it’s that people love a good discourse about race and artistic interpretation. That’s why SU fandom has a hard time because people drew Rose skinny and humanizations of the gems tend to differ in race if I recall correctly.
You know? I just don’t want to start shit, so I typically stick to what I know. I’m trying to break from that, though.
