Inspector Hemulen is a cop I can TRUST
Alright so, I have a very difficult question I can't decide on so I'm leaving it up to y'all;
In a Genderswap AU, Inspector would be...
a butch/masc woman with effeminate interests
a femme woman with masculine interests
something else (elaborate in tags/comments)
I'm having a difficult time with this one because as I untangle the web of gender expectation and subversion of his character while thinking about the Genderswap of him, I realize that both options lead to very difficult problems.
1. If Girl Inspector was a butch woman in the police force who still likes flowers and decorates her police station like a grandma and is too nice to really arrest anyone, she would only play into stereotypes of women in the police/military being too preoccupied in that ~Feminine Ways~ to do their jobs properly, even if she were to dress masculinely and wear her hair short. But it would be loyal to the characterization of her male counterpart despite the effect of "a policeman who likes flowers and floral decor" on a mid-20th century audience not quite being there anymore, because the idea of a woman being in the police force would still have a similar effect on the reader, as female police officers, let alone a police inspector, was uncommon in the UK at the time.
2. If Girl Inspector was a femme woman with a different profession with more emphasis on masculine interests, it would perfectly mirror the effect of his original character, but I feel like it might be too different from the original Inspector to really feel like him anymore.
If anyone has any solid opinions or suggestions to add to this please let me know, I'm genuinely having a hard time here.
Last day of Hemulgust
Well that was a fun month. Wish I could've ended it with more of a bang but I think these fellas together is fine enough.
The rain has always been a little unwelcome...
A comic/animatic thing with the Inspector (or I guess Ian Spektor since he's out of the job here?) in a sorta attempt to emulate the 90s style that I'll probably never finish, so I might as well have people see it.
An interesting question to pose, @official-yumikus-guide , though it was a bit of an obvious answer for which, the why is something I can't really explore until maybe later.
