The Rideau Canal built in 1832 and still in function today is the oldest continuously operated canal system in North America. Closed for the season, this image shows the multiple locks before the entry to the Ottawa River. On the other side of the locks is the Rideau Canal Skateway, the world's largest and second longest skating rink that is normally open January to March, dependent on the weather.
