Set in the eastern fringes of the Cotswolds, Whatley Manor was once the less posh-sounding Twatley Farm. From the mid-19th century it was expanded by successive owners, taking it to Michelin 2 star under its previous chef. Not a typical cityscape, but this is in London - a Spring morning in the Regent’s Park. An oasis in the city, at this time in the morning there were just a few cyclists, joggers and dog walkers. Behind the tree there are tennis courts. It is one of London’s eight Royal Parks and covers an area of 395 acres. Hidcote Manor Garden on the edge of the Cotswolds in Gloucestershire was created by Lawrence Johnston, an American who settled in Britain. He began in 1910 and by the 1920s he had twelve full-time gardeners working for him. It is one of the best-known and most influential Arts and Crafts gardens in Britain with linked "rooms" of hedges, rare trees, and herbaceous borders. He took great care to select the best plants, and Hidcote has given its name to several, including a lavender variety. The style has been widely imitated. This pool invisibly drains off under the hedge on the left into a garden with a stream feature. The first photo is of Malmesbury, a pretty market town in the Southern Cotswolds in Wiltshire. On summer weekends, the country roads are filled with classic cars being taken on outings by their proud owners. Westonbirt Arboretum in Gloucestershire is one of the finest tree collections in the world, first planted in 1829 and laid out within a Grade One listed landscape. Westonbirt comprises some 18,000 trees and shrubs, with 79 "champion trees", the tallest or largest of their kind in Britain.
