Cuz I'm all about that bass... 'bout that bass... Double Bass, Double Chocolate. I popped open #DoubleBass, a new brew from @starrhillbrewery today. The weather is wet and nasty, which makes it a perfect day for a Stout. Brewed with cocoa powder, cocoa nibs, vanilla beans and lactose, this sweet Stout grabbed my attention quick. It's not an Imperial Stout, which is my preferred variety of flavored Stouts, but this one weighs in at a respectable 7.8% abv. The aroma isn't big, but a nice cocoa nose is there. The flavors are what you would expect after reading the list of added ingredients, chocolate is extremely prevalent. Starr Hill does a good job at keeping the big cocoa notes balanced though. With the first few sips, the powdered cocoa is boss, but once my palate grew accustomed to the flavors, the combination of nibs and vanilla beans started to shine. The hint of vanilla and the light sweetness from the lactose really do work well with keeping all of the flavors in check. None of the flavors are too big and the beer finishes pretty clean for a Chocolate Stout. Again, this brew is a little small for me... I'm definitely a fan of bigger malt bill when it comes to my Stouts, but everything seems to work well. The body is big enough to keep you satisfied, yet light enough to make for an easy drinker.
