I stopped by @thebeerhog today for a beer after work. They had #HitchHiker from @gpbrewing on the tap wall, pair that with their #GoodPeople event tonight, and I had to grab a glass. This seasonal IPA is sooo damn good. With big grapefruit and citrus notes in both the aroma and flavor backed with a big but welcome bitterness... this is a great beer to transition into these hot days. With all the excitement of Dogfish Head coming to Alabama this week, it's easy to overlook some of the other kick ass things going on in Craft Beer. #HitchHiker from @gpbrewing is making it's way to store shelves this week, and that freaking awesome! #GhostBridge from @singinriver. This #ImperialStout not only has a pretty rad label, the beer is pretty good too. The nose is full of huge dark fruit aromas, that borderline on almost overpowering. There are some roasted coffee/chocolate notes as well, but the fruity vibe is strong. Cocoa and roasted malts are more pronounced in the the flavor, but that strong cherry/prune/raisin flavor is still there. Mouthfeel is much better than I anticipated, with a nice stickiness that lingers for days. This is a great offering from the brewery up in Florence, and honestly, it's my favorite from them. If you've contemplated buying this one for the awesome can design, do it, the beer is good! That being said, the aroma makes this a polarizing example of the style, so let me know what you guys think. Friday 1/20, @avondalesourroom be releasing Blend #1 at the Sour Room at Avondale. Blend #1 is their sour blonde ale aged on boysenberries, blueberries, and blackberries for 11 months in French Oak barrels. This Lacto and Brett offering has a nice kick of sour with an array of funk. This is a limited release of about 300 bottles(750ml/$18); available on draft now.
