Note: This is set in an AU where Semblances can manifest like Stands.

“You do realise that you have legs, right?” Vanille pointed out as Lucky Fox lounged about in Lumina’s arms.

“But look how short they are compared to yours.” Lucky Fox curled up to Lumina’s chest. “I have to take so many steps just to match one of yours. I’d totally get left behind.”

“I don’t know.” Vanille glanced meaningfully to where Instant Analysis was trotting along beside Raine and the other kids. The Semblance was paying particularly close attention to their destination: a restaurant that specialised in barbecue. “She seems to be doing okay.”

“Well, she’s younger than me.” Lucky Fox sighed melodramatically. “I’m barely hanging on in my dotage.”

“Cease your complaining,” Army of One growled. “And stop bothering my bearer.” She reached out and took Lucky Fox from Lumina. 

“Aww... I knew you liked me.” Lucky Fox ignored the glare she received and nudged Army of One’s chest. “Could you maybe make me a floating throne? I think I’d look good sitting on one.”

“No throne for you.”

“Oh well.” Lucky Fox yawned. “Wake me up when we get to the restaurant.” She closed her eyes. “I hope they’ve got good booze. It’s been a while since I’ve had some great whiskey.” 

Lumina cleared her throat.

“Oh.” Lucky Fox opened one eye and nodded at the children. “Don’t drink, kids. It’s totally not something you should be doing... unless you’re me because I am a Semblance, and drinking won’t kill my kidneys or anything.”

“...” Lumina raised one eyebrow.

“And listen to what your parents say and try not to turn into delinquents because I’ll totally get blamed for it.”

Author’s Notes

Lucky Fox is being lazy as usual. Instant Analysis, despite looking quite similar to her apart from the armour, is not nearly as lazy. That said, Lucky Fox does have a point. Semblances don’t have physical bodies in the way that people do. They’re basically Aura constructs, so drinking won’t affect her the same way it would a person. That said, it’s amusing that Vanille’s Semblance is a possibly alcoholic fox who can’t be bothered doing anything unless necessary.

How did Raine find out what her semblance is ?

As a reminder, Raine’s Semblance is Instant Analysis. When active it allows her to identify weaknesses or problems in people, things, and possible courses of action. It often manifests as her asking a question (e.g., how likely is my plan to work?) and then getting a probability response (e.g., 95% chance of success). However, it can go further and analyse more deeply.

Think of it as being akin to an appraisal ability. At low levels, it can only give her an idea of how likely something is to work or a qualitative analysis of how dangerous something is (e.g., start running). At higher levels, the information gets more and more in depth to the point that it can start displaying branching probabilities for possible courses of action based on whatever criteria she wants. So, something like “if I want to beat Diana in a game of poker without cheating, what are the five most likely methods and how likely are they?”.

It’s a combination of some of Saviour’s analysis capabilities combined with Lucky Fox’s grasp of probabilities but without Lucky Fox’s ability to influence those probabilities. Instant Analysis can basically ‘see’ the probabilities of different things happening and can both extrapolate from those probabilities and determine what causes them in the first place.

Raine first noticed her Semblance after getting a headache around Vanille. She was instinctively using her Semblance to help her experiment. As you can imagine, Instant Analysis is tremendously useful when you’re doing experiments and research. However, it kept getting weird readings due to Lucky Fox activating near her. Some experimentation on her own and then with her mom and Diana’s help allowed her to map out the capabilities of her Semblance.

Fun fact: The first 0% reading she ever got was when she asked Instant Analysis to determine the possibility of her beating Diana in a no-holds barred fight. Her Semblance stated that there was a 0% chance of victory. Her first 100% reading occurred when she asked Instant Analysis to identify a way for her to escape getting into trouble for helping her mom remodel the kitchen against her mother (Lumina’s) wishes. Instant Analysis came up with several courses of action. The most likely to succeed (with a 100% likelihood of success) was to throw Vanille under the metaphorical bus.

Fighting Raine is basically a race against time. Given sufficient time, Instant Analysis will identify a possible weakness, and she will exploit it. The best option is to overwhelm her before Instant Analysis can do its thing. However, even that can be hard because Instant Analysis will also flag any high probability events likely to lead to injury/death.

In the Semblance Manifestation AU, Saviour (Lightning’s) thinks Instant Analysis is adorable. Instant Analysis manifests as a fox in a Saviour cosplay outfit (think Lucky Fox as a fox version of Saviour). This is a nod at the fact that Instant Analysis is, in many ways, Saviour-lite, at least from an analysis point of view. She will often be found sitting on Raine’s shoulder or lap and saying things like “Get me bacon... 100% probability of Semblance rebellion if you don’t”.

Interaction (Final Rose AU)

Instant Analysis looked up at Creation of All Things. “Seriously? Why is everyone bigger than me? Do me a favour. Pick me up.”

Creation of All Things picked her up.

“Since you’re the newbie, let me explain a few things.”

Creation of All Things nodded.

“No powers inside the house unless you’re confident you can control them. Now, this might not seem fair since I use my powers all the time, but I analyse things. Unless I actually commit to doing something with my analyses, I can’t exactly blow stuff up. However, you’re a bit more like Grand Transmuter and Grand Transformer. All you’d need to do is accidentally create some napalm or something, and you could set the house on fire.”

Creation of All Things didn’t say a word, but she somehow managed to convey her desire to avoid setting the house on fire without so much as changing her expression.

“Well, that’s good. Those other two can be pretty troublesome.” Instant Analysis sighed dramatically. “It’ll be nice having someone else sensible in the house. Army of One might say she’s sensible, but it’s hard to believe her when she’s threatening people with projectiles all the time.” The armoured fox nudged Creation of All Things. “Also, never trust anyone who creates their own throne to sit on. Seriously, it’s weird.”

Another nod.

“But, yeah, as long as you’re careful inside the house, it should be fine. I know you’re still new, but I’m sure you can make all kinds of things. From what I can tell, you can already make simple molecules from scratch, and you can even decide the macroscopic structure they take as well. I doubt it will be long before you can start making more complex molecules.” Instant Analysis squinted at the rings rotating around Creation of All Things. “And, yeah, you can make more exotic stuff too, but maybe lay off on that for a while. It’s cool and all, but I’m not sure Fraise has the Aura capacity to pull it off yet.”

Another nod.

“Good.” Instant Analysis licked her lips. “Now, I need to ask you a very important question since I haven’t seen you do it yet but I can’t think of any reason why you couldn’t. Can you make bacon?”

Author’s Notes

Somehow, Instant Analysis often ends up as the designated sensible Semblance in the house. Lucky Fox is too lazy and obnoxious to pull it off, and Army of One is too easily irritated and tyrannical. Grand Transformer and Grand Transmuter (the Semblances for the twins) are, as their name suggests, somewhat over the top too. Instant Analysis, though, is laid-back but mostly down to earth other than her love of bacon.

As the newest Semblance in the house, Creation of All Things needs to learn the ropes, so it’s up to Instant Analysis to lay out how it’s going to be. Of the Semblances in the family, Creation of All Things probably gets along with Instant Analysis the best.

As an aside, although Creation of All Things displays basically no emotion at all (she emotes even less than Fraise), she does share Fraise’s appreciation of cute and cuddly things. It is not unusual for her to grab one of Lucky Fox or Instant Analysis and for Fraise to grab the other. She can’t really grab Grand Transmuter or Grand Transformer since they are humanoid Semblances and therefore are not as cute and cuddly.
