last week's you would give today's you a big pat on the back for travelling to korea at this time of the year. the temperature is perfect—warm and slightly breezy as spring nears its end. you navigate your way through the busy streets and end up in front of a cozy cafe. harmony cafe, the sign reads, sounds harmonious indeed.
the bells hanged above the door jingles as you make your way in. you look around the small space and see a group of students frowning at something on their laptops, a couple who were taking turns in sipping a drink seemingly new to their taste, and a man who sat on the empty side of the room, in a corner.
taking a few more steps in, your eyes land on the menu, brows furrowing when you read such peculiar names used for drinks. bassline brew, velvet vibrato, and other musical terms you're not familiar with. well, so much for the cafe living up to its name.
your eyes wander around the space once again, trying to find someone who ordered something that looks good. your eyes stopped scanning and settled on what the man on the corner was holding. perfect, a simple iced coffee, exactly what you need on a warm day. you're not sure what takes over you but before you knew, you were walking over to the man and asking what he was drinking.
the man looks up from his phone and beams brightly. you were both relieved and confused. relieved because he obviously doesn't look annoyed and confused as to why he was smiling so hard at your face when you just asked him a question. you guess it's something about koreans' hospitality that was peeking through.
"hey, sorry to bother you but your coffee looks perfect. do you mind telling me what your order is?" the tone of your voice was soft, scared to bother the man in front of you but still desperate to know the name of his coffee despite it probably being strange.
"uh...is that really the name?" you hesitantly asked. you knew the drinks had weird names and you already expected it to be extraordinary just from the brief scan from the menu earlier. but you've never thought it'd be as ridiculous as beat drop.
"hi, i think its called beat drop or something. it's really good," he said, looking at you and nodding his head like he's proving a point.
you blink. beat drop? is he for real? wouldn't that be awkward to say when you make your order?
the man chuckles at your expression, finding your confusion amusing. "yeah, strange name right? it's just how they name their drinks. and trust me, it's the best seller here, you should give it a try." he encourages you and suddenly you notice how attractive this man is.
his eyes were slightly upward, his cheekbones were prominent, and his lips had a defined cupid's bow. you unconsciously stared at him and immediately snapped out of it when you notice, pretending to think and contemplate about buying the drink or not.
"you can seat here if you want to. my name's intak." he offers, giving you another smile that made your heart stop for a split second. without a second thought, you nod, showing him your own smile before turning around and walking over to the counter.
he cocks his head to the side, oddly reminding you of a puppy. and you think, yeah i should give it a try.
your head is already nodding before a word comes out of your mouth. you say a quick "thank you" to him and start walking, but then you feel a hand grab your wrist.
last week's you would've given today's you two solid pats on the back for travelling to korea at this time of the year and meeting a cute boy to drink your strangely named coffee with.
