US Army seeks 1337 graphics
Intelligent Decisions, the company in charge of creating virtual training simulations for the U.S. Army RDECOM or, 'Research, Development and Engineering Command,' has recently partnered with Applied Research Associates to gain access to the Unreal Engine 3.
Intelligent Decisions intends to use the engine to enhance it’s already existing systems by improving their autonomous avatars as well as introducing haptic feedback for firefights. They are also looking at the engine's ability to add more environmental variables, such as terrain and weather conditions according to Clarence Pape, VP of Simulation and Training at Intelligent Decisions.
Previously we have seen the military utilize VBS2 which has been used to create ArmA II, a realistic combat environment simulator that allows programmers to account for real world conditions such as weather, gravity, ballistics, and many more variables most FPS games shy away from, in favor of more flashy and fast paced games.
