Intel: Education & Innovation Empowerment for Girls & Women in Technology
She Will Connect has a goal of informing women and girls worldwide of how the internet can be used in a positive way to improve their lives and the lives of their families.
The Internet has helped transform the lives of billions of people around the world. But many girls and women are being left behind. Nearly 25% fewer women than men have access to the Internet in some countries. This gap is close to 43% in Sub-Saharan Africa.
So, why are women being left behind? There are many reasons, including the cost of technology and Internet access. But many women also say that they are uncomfortable with using technology and that others (including their families) don't feel it is "appropriate" or "useful" for women to be online.
Many women have told us that they just don't understand what information is available on the Internet and how they could use it in their daily lives and to help them achieve their goals and dreams.
Even women who are connected, reported not taking full advantage of the benefits. As one woman in South Africa recently shared with our team, "We know how to use the Internet, but we don't know how to use it to benefit our lives."
