Hey. We're still in a fight. I just wanted to let you know I love you, but I don't want to talk to you right now. Bye.

Where: Riley's flat.
Riley was proud of their charity work. They'd started with community service. Being court-ordered, let's just say they weren't exactly how they'd have spent their time post-trial in a new state they simply didn't know or cared to know. They'd been absolutely wary of everyone and everything. Always on their guards. They'd never take the credit for their passage towards loving charity work. It wasn't that they'd change their mind really, they'd quite hated community service until they'd ended up at the Days, who made it their life mission to reform Riley. Who didn't make their job easy. But there they were, after years and years, doing as much as they could to repair past mistakes that seemed to stuck to their sole as if superglued.
This new mindset leads everything in their life. They'd chosen careers and past times based on how they could help others. So after you'd talked about a project you'd had, Riley was happy to help. Of course. A queer shelter? That sounded incredible. And definitely needed.
You'd agreed to meet at Riley's flat tonight to talk more about it and start planning. They'd spend enough time within the charity network here to know a thing or two, especially people who could and would help. Welcomed into the flat, they'd offered some of the Chinese takeout they'd ordered. They liked cooking, but the focus here wasn't the food. "So, where do we start?" They asked. "Oh, maybe you want to tell me about your day first."

When: 21st of June, 2023.
Happy birthday, love.
This is what Aindreis whispered in his partner's ear upon waking up this morning. It was indeed Ali's special day. And while the latter was never big on celebrating it, Andy would never miss that chance.
He'd try to wake up earlier than Ali, but honestly that felt like mission impossible. He'd have made breakfast if it had been part of Ali's routine. It felt like an important birthday. I mean... So far? Ali's birthday since he'd been back in his life hadn't been the greatest of moments. Their reunion after Andy's stubborn silence for... Not much in the end. And last year... Well, Ali's return from his impromptu trip in the Highlands. Every time so far, it had been a difficult time. Now, Andy wanted things to go smoothly. Given recent events and the way things were going, that felt even more necessary.
Sadly, as much as he'd have liked to stay home, he had to work today. But he'd manage to plan to leave early. He'd put alarms, asked people for reminders, he'd made sure he would leave on time. They didn't have much planned anyway. Aindreis would come home, they'd change into classier clothing... And stay home. They'd talked about doing something this weekend, going somewhere, but for tonight, it would be a chill, but classy, night at home. On his way back home, Andy would pick up the food and they'd just enjoy themselves in the greenhouse. So, not much planned. Or that's what Ali thought.
Andy, on the other hand, had something else in mind. No big parties or anything, it was Ali's birthday after all. But he wanted to do more. So he'd left work a little earlier, in order to make sure his surprise was all ready to go. It was nothing massive but he hoped Ali would like it. But what he found out is that it wasn't ready to go as he thought. It wasn't really ready at all, and he spent the next hour ignoring alarms to fix it.
Now he was late. Again. Not by a lot but still. It was for a good cause, with good reason, but he wasn't going to text Ali "sorry, not held up at work, I'm prepping your surprise" or it wouldn't be a surprise anymore. He hated the fact that his partner might think once again that he'd prioritised work. Arriving in the flat, he didn't find Ali and imagined he'd be in the greenhouse. Instead of going there immediately, he changed into what he'd planned to wear on their evening before going up to the greenhouse.
"Hey... " He approached him. "I'm sorry... I really am. Happy birthday." He looked at him with admiration. "You look amazing... I think you should wear some shoes though... "

Where Hope Beach
The good days were starting show their noses, but they especially started to linger even in the evenings. Jo, for one, couldn't be happier. It was a hard feeling to get from her, but the feeling of the sun on her skin was a great one. After seeing most of the US with her van, she couldn't say the weather in East Haven was her favourite but she dealt with it. Now, she could actually start to enjoy it.
That was even more true knowing you were here. The days were you travelled together were long, long gone but she had been really happy to hear to were moving here. As well as the fact that you got together with Aindreis, who she's met when you were a road trip in the States and Canada. She didn't tell you, but she'd called it. Today wasn't about travels though, it was about the beach on a rather warm day and spending a good evening.
She showed up a little late, in Jo fashion sadly, and sat down next to you on the sand after she'd seen you from afar. There was even a little bonfire. Other people had found it would be nice tonight so there were quite a lot of people on the beach but it wasn't crowded. And Jo had even taken her guitar just in case. "Got us some stuff to drink. I bet you brought something to eat, knowing you."
