BIOGRAPHY
TW: childhood neglect.
-Josephine was born in Kismet Harbor on July 17th, 1987.
-Her dad is a mechanic, and her mom was a university professor, who left when Jo was young. Since then, her dad has been pretty much checked out, apart from the moments when Jo got interested in cars and he taught her what he could. She started small jobs as soon as she could, some of them being summer jobs at the car repair shop her dad worked at.
-Her dad got remarried when she was 13 and had her sister a year later, which made Jo take even more of a backseat. At least, it gave her freedom from her dad, but
-With the money she’d been saving for a long time, she bought an old van, repaired it and left when she was 18. She never cared much for studies and had no real career plans so she spend the next 10 years or so travelling the US, only coming back to East Haven on rare occasions.
-She came back 8 years ago, when she was 28, because her sister called her saying that DCF was threating to take him away. Since then, she has been taking care of her in Kismet Harbor and works as a mechanic.
-She’s quite secretive but is no stranger to going out and having fun. She’ll kill you if you call her anything but Jo. She’s quite into sports and goes to the gym regularly.
Dancing around the topic of money was something Jo could definitely relate to. Buying the garage had been the biggest purchase of her life and it still felt uneasy to know how much it cost. She could understand the man's hesitation to be frank on the topic, especially when trying to buy something. But if anything, that made her want to help him more because she'd been in a similar situation over two decades ago, trying to buy herself a cheap van so she could leave. "Yeah, I get that," she replied with a nod. "We have some cars that people brought and didn't want to paid the repairs for so they're definitely second-hand and patched up but they work and they're okay cheap." She shrugged before following his gaze. "Hm, well, depends. My father's been here since I was a kid at least," she said with a thinely veiled grimace, "some have been there probably as long, other more recently. Kid's here," she said, showing an older teenager with a sign of the head, "started what, last week or so. Why? You're interested?" @cohenblake
Cohen listened, head nodding as the other mentioned that there were some cars that were there second hand, but worked the same none the less. “Oh, that’s probably what I need.” He nodded, eyes scanning the lot as if to hope to spot one from where he was standing, though a moment later his eyes refocused on the other. “What are the price ranges?” He questioned, hands in his pockets as he knew that regardless, it was likely something he’d need to make payment arrangements on. Eyes scanned, looking around as he tried his best to take it all in, see what kind of things were needed, etc. only allowing himself to nod at her question. “It couldn’t hurt.” He shrugged. “I don’t think I’d be able to pay for it up front so if anything I could work to pay for the vehicle. Learn a thing or two about mechanic work.” He shrugged. “If that’s something you’d be willing to work with me on.” @thejospring
“It depends on what you’re looking for. We’ve got a few older models that are decent, run well enough, for maybe a couple grand, maybe a bit more for something in better condition. If you’re not picky, we can probably work something out," Jo said with a shrug. She then titled her head as she considered his words. She leaned against the counter and crossed her arms, giving him a wry smile. “As for payment, well, I’m not running a charity here, but if you're up for some hard work and learning about cars, we could work something out. Something fair for both of us.” She looked at him like she was trying to guess whether or not it would be a deal that would be worth it. Worse case scenario, she could always tell him he didn't exactly earn his keep, or his car in this case. At least, he might get a discount out of it. "We’re not talking oil changes, you’ll need to get your hands dirty. You think you can handle that? ‘Cause if you're not pulling your weight, I don’t have time to babysit anyone.” @cohenblake
Offering the blonde a small shake of his head, Cohen shrugged. “I’m not really.” He admitted, eyes focusing on her as his hands nervously shifted to his pockets. “I just need a second vehicle and I was hoping to get something a little more affordable.” He started. Money was never something Cohen liked admitting to other people he was lacking; he honestly usually felt embarrassed and maybe even a little prideful that he couldn’t provide for his family the way he wanted to, but, he at least could ask about a cheaper deal than the dealership. He knew people well off that didn’t even want to pay those prices. “The dealership isn’t exactly in my price range so I thought I’d ask here first.” Though his admission was barely audible in his opinion, once the statement left his lips he turned his head, eyes focusing on some sort of noise behind him. It focused in on the garage, curiosity forming in his brain. “These people you’ve got here been doing this along time?” He questioned, eyes returning to the other. @thejospring

"Mmm friendship, company, good looks?" She teased a little bit with a smirk. "Don't tell my brother I'm flirting with his boss." Lexi teased a little bit as she walked around a little bit, but didn't touch anything. "Nothing really. Just been working a lot lately and going on dates here and there." She shrugged. "What about you? Doing anything fun?" @thejospring
"Ah but those are only for special customers," she replied with a smirk before pretending to zip up her lips, amused. "How are those going?" she asked as she looked into the hood, checking that the heat was coming down. "Hm, I tried out the axe throwing place not long ago, on a maybe date, and it was actually pretty fun." @lexisfontenelle
Jo was looking under the hood of a car, hands black with grease when she heard Lexi's voice. She leaned to be able to see her and flashed her a smile. "I'll be right there!" she replied, going back to her engine, which needed just one little tweak more. Once she was done with that, she grabbed a towel to clean her hands as best as she could and walked towards Lexi. "You can put your car there," she said, gesturing towards a free garage spot. "I'll take care of you." Waiting for the car to be there, she went to prepare the spot to be able to do the oil change. @lexisfontenelle
"Okay!" Lexi called back and waited patiently for Jo to reappear. Once she did, she smiled and nodded. "Sounds good. I'll pull it in." She moved to her car and pulled into the place that the other woman had wanted her to go to and got back out after turning the car off. "There you are." She grinned. "Thanks for this again. I appreciate it." @thejospring
"What else am I here for?" Jo replied with an easy smile. She rolled the little cart with all the needed tools and supplies next to the car before putting on her gloves. She'd have to wait a few minutes for the engine to cool down so she started ordering her tools. "So, apart from an oil change, what's up?" she asked. @lexisfontenelle
"Everything I said it would be?" Gale asked, relishing in the warmth from his fireplace he had been boasting high and mighty about during their axe throwing adventure. He'd invited her over for dinner, just a simple roast he'd put in the oven so it was done by the time she got there and he actually had the time to clean everything up. He handed her the drink he'd gotten for her, setting his own down on the table before he sat down, feeling the heat even better on his arms, now bare from his rolled up sleeves. "Nothing better than the flickering of a fire, right? The sound, the glow, the warmth." @thejospring
One of the things that Jo regretted when she bought the house she lived in now with her sister was the lack of a fireplace. Her childhood home had one and it was one of the few things she remembered fondly about that place. "Even better! It’s almost like I’m in one of those fancy catalog homes…" She replied as she thanked him for the drink. She looked at the flickering light from the fire and nodded. "It’s not bad. You’ve got the whole rustic thing going on.” Jo let her gaze travel back to him, a smirk on her lips. “Must be the rolled-up sleeves. Really ties the whole vibe together.” She took a sip of her drink, her gaze flicking to the fireplace and then back to him. Jo leaned forward slightly, her voice dropping just a notch. “Careful, Gale. If this keeps up, I might start thinking you’re actually trying to impress me.” @galexpeterson
Getting a second vehicle had been something on Cohen's radar ever since his serious talk with Courtney the month prior. They'd been in need for a second vehicle anyways but with his Christmas bonus from work, the money they'd been saving and his last pay check he'd had a couple grand saved up to put towards a new car; at least he hoped so. Worst case scenario he could figure out what he needed to go with it and maybe get something later; he'd have to figure that out. He'd driven by and had parked at the far end of the lot - not wanting to take up room from people that actually had a reason to be here - before he made his way to what he assumed was the office. It wasn't long before he was greeted by someone - a blonde that he assumed had been the name he'd heard around town - and he cleared his throat. "Do you happen to be Jo?" he questioned, reading the name tag on her shirt a moment too late before he nodded. "I was told to come by here and talk to you. I know sometimes you guys have cars that you're trying to sell, whether it be for yourselves or clients - and I was hoping maybe you could lead me in the right direction if that's not something you do."
Jo was settling into her position. When she first started as the owner, she'd fear she'd get overwhelmed, which was not something she was really familiar with, usually not caring enough for it to truly happen. This was different, and quite surprisingly to her, it was going well. She didn't enjoy all the parts of that particular position. Sure, she'd made sure she still had time to spend quite some time actually working on cars, unlike the previous owners, but she still had quite a bit of administrative work to do. Still, she was getting the hang of it. She heard some noise outside her office and got up to check it out. "I am," she replied with a polite smile. More public relations also wasn't necessarily her favourite part. She relaxed a bit at the young man's words. "I mean, the dealership's your best bet if you're looking for something specific but if you're not, I'm sure we could find you something for a good price."

"jo, hi." roman greeted her, flashing a smile. he knew jo from 'lake legion', the fishing group of kismet harbor. they weren't close but it was nice to see a familiar face. "thank god you're here. i can't decide whether to have a hot dog with my usual - ketchup, extra mustard, light on the onions - or if i should be adventurous and try the macaroni cheese topping. what do you think?"
Jo smiled when Roman came to her and then gave him a thinking face like he was giving her the ultimatum of a lifetime. "Well, your usual does sound good but I have heard good things about that topping." She thought about it for a second. "You know what, here's a deal: we get one of each and share, what do you think?" @romanrhodes
"Why, would you land it on my toes again?" He messed with her, a smile laced on his lips. His hands raised in the air when she told him he had to show her how it was done, stepping away from the pillar as they swapped places. "This is going to come and bite me in the ass, isn't it?" Gale snickered, picking up the hatchet, changing the grip in his hand as he figured out what stance worked best for him. He lifted his eyes from the hatchet to Josephine, giving her a quick wink before he looked at the target. He shifted his weight from his back leg to his front leg, swinging the hatchet towards the target. @thejospring
Jo folded her arms, her smirk sharp as ever. “I mean, it’d serve you right for not moving fast enough the first time,” she shot back, leaning her shoulder against the nearby wall as she watched him size up the hatchet. “But hey, if you’re that worried, maybe stick to foam axes next time." She watched him line up his shot, her gaze narrowing when he threw her the wink. “Oh, you’re feeling confident now, huh?” she teased, her voice light but edged with a hint of challenge.
She watched it fly, half-rooting for him to miss just so she could give him hell, though she had to admit—grudgingly—it was a decent throw. The blade thudded against the target—not a bullseye, but pretty close. Jo clapped slowly, her grin widening. “Not bad. Though, I was kind of hoping it’d bounce back and scare you a little. Would’ve been fun to watch you scramble", she said as she lined up to take her next shot. @galexpeterson

location: extra mile
Lexi needed an oil change so she had made an appointment at Extra Mile since her brother, Carter, worked there. Honestly, though, she probably would've gone there anyways because she never had any issues with them and now that it was owned by Jo, she would support it even more. Pulling up into the parking lot, she pulled into a space before getting out and heading inside. "Hey, Jo. I'm here for that oil change."
Jo was looking under the hood of a car, hands black with grease when she heard Lexi's voice. She leaned to be able to see her and flashed her a smile. "I'll be right there!" she replied, going back to her engine, which needed just one little tweak more. Putting together a plate of snacks for herself to munch on, Aliye lounged back to get comfortable, always one to be at ease any time she was able to just be out in nature. "Oh, dude, so many good stories. It's kind of wild sometimes the things people do on dates like that," she affirmed with a laugh, lips twisted as she pondered over which story to tell.
"I got proposed to once. That was pretty fucking weird. Rich dude that had never gotten married, was turning forty and was just...the way he put it was that he was ready to build his legacy," she began, nose wrinkling up. "He had a full five year plan for when we'd get married, when we'd have kids, all of it. I can definitely see why he had to pay for dates."
Jo also had crazy dates and related stories, but none like that. She took a bite as she listened to Aliye tell her story and laughed. "Oh that's absolutely insane," she replied. "I cannot help but wonder where men find the audacity." Jo shook her head, but she was more amused than anything. She paused for a second, took a drink and then let out a short laugh as she remembered a story. “I went on a blind date with a guy who brought his pet ferret along. Said it ‘couldn’t be left alone.’ Halfway through dinner, the thing escaped and bolted out the door. Spent the rest of the night running through backyards trying to catch it. Some guy thought I was breaking into his house. And to top it off, the guy actually asked me out again. Told him he and the ferret deserved each other.” @aliyebalik
"It's always a compliment." That was what he had taught his son, anyway. Even if someone said it to be petty or mean, if you could find a compliment in it, that's all that mattered. With elevated heads, so to speak. Gale stepped to the side, one arm resting against the barrier that separated their track from the one next to it. "Uhuh, just throw." He smirked, watching her as she aimed and threw at the target. He had to admit when to give a compliment. At least the hatchet hadn't fallen to the ground but had stuck to the wooden board, even if it had just missed the target by an inch or two. "You know, you ought to throw the hatchet in the target." He told her, though his expression showed he was merely teasing, which was only strengthened by him gesturing the shape of the board. "You know, that thing over there looking like this." @thejospring
Jo wasn't one to try and find compliments everywhere, but she also wasn't one who cared much what other people said to or about her. Well, most other people. While she couldn't say she was proud of herself for that throw, she was glad it didn't lend on the floor. Or came back to her like her sister show her on video when she mentioned she was going axe throwing. At least she felt she had pretty good reflexes. She bit back an amused smile at this words, shaking her head. "You're lucky you weren't the target," she replied. "So c'mon, show me how it's done since you know where the target is." She stepped back leaning against the pillar. @galexpeterson
"Exactly," she shrugged. If Jo had it her way, she'd probably live in a house in the middle of the forest. Not a tent because suffering wasn't on her list of wants, but something isolated, where people wouldn't bother her but she'd be able to go to the town and party when she wanted. She loved seeing people and partying, but only when she was in the mood. Thankfully, today was a good day.
"You're making good points," she said with a nod. "I guess we'll have to see which one it ends up being." She smiled, amused. At Aliye's question, she shrugged. "No offense, but I bid kind of randomly. I wasn't even hoping for anyone. I just thought it might be a good thing to do for charity." @aliyebalik
"You haven't run off yet, so I'll count that as a win," she said with a grin and a quick shrug of her shoulders. Given that it had all been set up from the charity auction, Aliye hadn't come into it with any real expectations of it going swimmingly, but so far at least it had been easy going enough. With the trail winding to an end up at the top, Aliye found them a good spot to post up, away from the handful of other people that were there spread about. The blanket was laid down and spread out for them to sit down, along with several pillows for extra comfort.
Opening up the picnic basket, there was a spread of various snacks and lunch options, tossed in with the hope that at least something would work for Jo. "Another laugh fell from her lips at Jo's admission, head bobbing understandably. "No offense taken. It's totally a good thing to do for charity. You could have made out way worse." Aliye figured that doing something for charity had been the goal for most people that bid, as well as most of the people that put themselves up for bid. "I do stupid stuff like that all the time, so definitely not the first charity date I've been on. It's always fun, though."
It had definitely been a gamble. Jo had figured that if she ended up being some creep or some weirdo, she could just dip. It was after all her own money. Even though it was a little weird to think of it in terms of a date, she wouldn't stay at a movie if she didn't like it. Same here. So far though, she wasn't running away.
As they sat down, Jo watched her date spread out some food in front of them and she had to admit she was impressed. "I could've yeah," she said, nodding. Suddenly though, she leaned towards her, interested. "Any good story came out of it?" @aliyebalik
"Thanks, Jo," he smiled more as she nudged him after he spoke of his newfound family. "It's a bit chaotic at times, but I'm happy and Nel's happy," he knew that was all that was important, "I'm sure it won't be long before we are on our way to filling the house," though he was certain he'd need a bigger house if that were going to be the case. "How are you liking owning a business? I mean that's a huge thing," he turned the attention back to Jo, "Are you still doing mechanic things too, or strictly owner stuff?" @thejospring
"That's what matters." She nodded, smiling. "Ah, I don't doubt it!" she added with a laugh, knowing he meant it and she couldn't wait to see it. At his question, she thought a bit. "Well, I'm still doing mechanics, yes. I would die of boredom if it was just paperwork and stuff. I'm gettiing the hang of it, I think. So far, pretty positive experience." @wyattxwheeler
"Yeah, probably about the same. I get to it when I can fit it in, but it's not always top of the list," she agreed with a hum. It was something she tried to do at least a few times a month, especially as the weather got kinder and the temperature got to the point where it was just impossible to turn down a day outside like this. "I do more trail running than anything else, actually. Always something that I have to throw in for training." It was just one of the many skills she built up in the off season when she wasn't out filming, knowing it was one that always came up in competition.
The trail she'd chosen was one of the prettier ones in the area and it seemed that Jo had been on it before. Her head bobbed, lips curling to another smile when the other woman called it a good choice. "Hell yeah. One of my favorite trails around here, honestly. It's short and sweet, perfect length for a date. Easy to turn around if you hate it, but perfect spot to just chill at the top if you're into it," she chuckled. "So, gotta ask. What was it that had you bid on me?"

Yasmin laughed softly at the other's words, "Yeah, when I can," she told her, "I am not musically talented myself but I really enjoy getting to see people in town show off their skills," she smiled once more, following Jo to the empty table. "You've got a quite the talent," she told Jo, "I don't think I could ever get up on a stage, even one as small as the one here, to perform. Running assemblies for elementary school kids can be jarring enough," she laughed again, shaking her head. @thejospring
Depending on who you asked, people might think it was surprising that Jo loved music, playing guitar and even singing, and some might say that's very expected. "I've been playing guitar since I was a teen," Jo replied, knowing a guitar was one of the few luxuries she'd had back then. "And I've played some small shows in bars and stuff when I lived on the road with a friend to get some money, so practice helps." She missed it sometimes so coming here was as best as one could get here. "See, that, I would not do," Jo said with a laugh. So many little kids. No way. @yasminxmoreno
Julieta had been tubing with Quentin and his kids, Sadie and Luke. They'd been beating her down the hill, naturally. The woman could rock climb with ease and speed but lugging the giant and round tube up the slope and getting into it was a whole different challenge for her. Julieta had made it down the hill once more and was headed towards the hot chocolate stand where she was in desperate need of a break. As she walked by some people, she stopped when she realized someone was talking to her. Julieta's lips parted, "Thank you," she reached up, her fingers searching for the stick stuck in her hair, "that must have happened the one time I managed to get off the slopes and into the brush." @thejospring
"That would make sense," Jo replied with a nod, slightly amused. "It tends to happen around here." It was a pretty cleared space but that's the best they could find and they weren't going to cut down bushes and trees for a festival, so some people found their way there. Not the most fun but Jo did find it a little funny. She turned to see where the woman was headed. "Going to get something warm? You know what, that's not a bad idea," she said, starting to walk that way. @julietaxalvarez
