“The kids went down relatively easy, and if Maddie says anything tomorrow about an ice cream party after bedtime she’s bullshitting you.” Surely that wasn’t the way a first grade teacher was meant to speak about a kid, but she had spent enough time around Rowan over the years that A smile tugged at her lips as Tessa settled down on the living room couch, patting the cushion next to her as she glanced up at Rowan. “I need to hear all about your night out before I go home...please tell me you at least had hot car sex? I won’t tell Ry.”

Rowan cast her eyes down, her teeth bothering her bottom lip. “I should feel ashamed for being such a wicked sinner.” She looked up at him with only her eyes. Her words an intimate whisper. “Will it help, if I pray for forgiveness? If I get down on my knees for you? Alexei?” She rolled his name along her tongue, as if tasting it in her mouth.

Rowan chuckled. "Maybe you should try harder or just accept the fact that you actually like my being around." A sweet smile on her face.

Rowan was clearly agitated. Of course, this wasn't the other girl's fault, but she didn't have any patience right now - or hardly ever. And Val's optimism wasn't helping. "This has to be fixed. Now!"
