@byronlc asked: “Do you honestly expect me to believe that?” / thorne to maxwell
"We had a deal. Why would I risk the safety of my pack by breaking it, hm?" It didn't make sense for Maxwell to do something like that, when his pack's safety was his top priority. The many run ins the two had by now must have given Thorne that knowledge too. Why else would've he agreed to keep their territory as it is, not expand it, if it meant the hunters left them alone. In return they did the same. Either someone was trying to put the blame onto the Sinclair pack or someone from within was trying to sabotage it and Maxwell could think of someone who would. "Give me time to investigate the matter. Then I'll let you know what I could figure out."
"You want time? Well, tough luck, Sinclair. That's exactly the one thing I can't give you."
He paused, taking a moment to compose himself. This tenseness he was feeling in every fibre of his body didn't exactly help to keep a clear mind. The whole situation was not just fucked up, there was something so foul with this, with the seemingly random attacks. There weren't any signs of a rogue wolf, let alone another pack in the territory. All pointed to the Sinclair pack. It was obvious. A bit too obvious.
Thorne watched the alpha, noticed how his facial expressions gave away something.
"You do know something," he said. And it wasn't a question. "Look, I don't trust your dogs the slightest. And I know you'd do anything to protect those fleabags. So, no. I won't give you time to figure it out and help the one responsible to escape his punishment." He didn't mention that the hunters would never allow it, even if he decided to let Sinclair deal with this on his own, which he wouldn't allow either, just for the record.
"We're doing this together." And in a much lighter tone, he added, "we're gonna play detectives and investigate these incidents together. This is gonna be fun." He actually grinned at the thought, especially as he knew how much the other must hate it. "What? You don't like that? You prefer I call the other hunters and they're gonna take over? And we both know they won't be as much fun working with as I am." He said this in a joking manner, but both knew that he meant that that would end in a bloodbath.
