“Okay, so I may have called her on the way home from the bar the other day,” Emmy started the conversation with an admission that seemed oddly like every other time she started the conversation with the man beside her. She grabbed a skee ball and held it in her hand, feeling the weight of it before rolling it up the ramp and straight into the lowest score possible. It was one thing to pretend to be a skee ball connoisseur and another to actually score a goddamn point. Ver had been messing with her head ever since that night, not able to get the woman out of her thoughts even when she tried her hardest and drank her hardest. “I know what you’re going to say, but save it. It was actually a nice conversation and I didn’t even drunkenly admit any undying love. I just told her I was turning over a new leaf.” Another ball rolled up the ramp and she glanced toward Charlie with an eye roll. “Whatever that means. A new leaf? What am I supposed to do, just become an entirely new person overnight? What’s even wrong with the person I am now? You know what, don’t answer that.”
