Interim Critique 18/1
The idea we came into the crit with was the animated bumpers, intending to be placed at the beginning of Youtube videos or even mainstream TV. The humourous tones still stood, using it to lighten the tones of the animation and trivialise the menstrual myths presented.
The crit itself went really well, our work getting good feedback and positive attention. The vector style of the illustrations reminded a few people of the Dumb Ways to Die video the Australian Metro released in 2012 to promote rail safety. Though it promoted a serious concept, and the age old advertising of public safety, the dark humour and catchy song making it go viral. Anna Ginsberg’s Private Parts video was also mentioned, the tongue-in-cheek humour potentially relating with taking a lighter, humourous tone with menstruation to make the impact it has on some people less intense.
Attempting to create five animated bumpers was already a task in itself, however from the suggestions we liked the idea of creating an app, at least two of the bumpers still being created as a method of promotion. Relating to the myths we wanted to include, it could go one of two ways; where people post their menstruation myths to be either debunked or confirmed, or as a selection of minigames aimed to be fun and also educate about the featured myths.
