The cut executed with scissors individually on each garment, the topstitching handmade with our exclusive “ a barchetta” point, buttonholes sewn by hand with the joists at the end of the slot, the Australian pearl buttons strictly 4mm applied by hand with “lily stitching”. A peculiar detail is the sleeve stitching, that is not in line with the side seam because the sleeve is sewn only after the side has been closed. This step is unique and can be done only by the skilled hands of our artisans. Finally, the ironing and the folding are made by hand too. Study in Coral: The 1950s Flared Coat; Part II

So now you have the back of the coat. Notice the collar is stiff enough to stand up and high enough to keep out the wind. Very handy. Whenever I see winter coats from the 1960s that have no collars, I think, Brrrrrr!

Then we have some closeups. You can see the turnback cuff, a very common design feature on both coats and blouses in the 1950s. Then, the pocket which is nicely shaped at the top to make it it easier to slide your hands in if chilly. Notice the bottom line of the pocket echoes the top line, making for harmony in line and adding a quiet grace to the otherwise plain body of the coat.

Finally, some features that make it warmer. The heavy satin lining is fused to a layer of woven lambswool, this is a kind of interlining which makes for a much warmer coat as you have two layers of wool. You can still find such lining if you look around. Then, last I shot a closeup of the fabric itself which is so soft. This is a woven wool, but it has been brushed to give it some of the softness of mohair without the high price tag or the fragility. BTW, people bought and can still buy brushes to refluff mohair knits and wovens.
