I’ve counted the number of sun cycles Since last my chest gaped like a chasmous canyon (227, to be precise) And I confess I miss the rosy rush My cheeks assume when I so much as Think of visiting you on your lunch break; Even then, we spoke of astronomy Of light years and how the former were dark Of envious moons orbiting their beloved So too did I wonder of my trajectory For what is there to make of an elliptical heart? Not an eclipse, but a trailing ellips-… I wondered what you meant When you said broken hearts were the stuff of astrophysicists I have studied planets closely from my orbit And have found that it takes 227 days For one full revolution of this moon The worst part of it all is that at best I must admire from afar As we are on no collision path It is the penultimate day of February It is your lunch break again You tell me of your current troubles with your new boyfriend My mind collides with space debris A satellite is not entitled to a heavenly body I think of all the things I could do better if given the chance But alas, I figured out what you meant Today was our 227th lunch And just like that My orbit began anew
