Vista/Norton Removal = No Internet
For some insane reason, after I uninstalled Norton (BOOO! HISSS!!) after the trial ended, my internet on my Vista went KAPUTSKI!
Norton is such a nag, that when the trial ends (a trial that is so intrusive I actually agreed to by accidental clicking) the only options they give you are a) RENEW (and pay) NOW or b) Remind Me Later. There is no "No I don't want this invasive program" option.
So now when I uninstalled I no longer can connect to my wireless and even more insanely stranger I can't connect to my CABLED connection. I literally am plugged in and no internet (only "local access") as well some strange new "Unnamed connection" is now showing up.
Apparently a bunch of others have had this horrible craptard (it's my word, but it fits) issue. Here are their solutions and tips.
Uninstalled norton on Vista laptop now no internet
...Internet was working fine before the uninstall, the connection is still there but I can't browse the internet anymore.
If i click diagnose the connection problem the computer says the connection is fine but i still can't browse the internet...
I got it to work, i missed a piece of norton when i did the add/remove programs. Once removed the other piece and rebooted i could get back on the internet.
Norton has 2 programs, I removed both of them and now things are working fine. also has to do this. Repair and Reset Windows Vista TCP/IP Winsock Catalog Corruption » My Digital Life
Apparently there is a tool on Norton that does the trick. I actually used the "Unistall Norton..." utility that was installed. I assumed that meant it I dunno .. uninstalled Norton. My bad for thinking a program does what it says.
So far through various forum searching, the solution is to either comb through the computer searching for Norton nomads and zap them and/or go to Norton's site (on another computer) and download the fix to USB stick and try to make that work.
Will update later once I try this.
UPDATE: Use this Norton Removal Tool - It removes all that crap and immediately restores internet back after a restart!
I BOYCOTT NORTON AND SYMANTEC products from now on. Shame on ISPs such as Rogers to push it upon users.
