Michael Roth, Chairman and CEO of IPG, obliged me with a few minutes of his time (which is in unbelievably high demand—I lucked out) to discuss his perspective on this evolving industry and how to forge ahead into success.
When it comes to having meaningful, lasting success in any given career, Mr. Roth—with an untraditional, non-advertising background—is of this unembellished school of thought: work hard, work harder, and then you’ll get noticed. Don’t get ahead of yourself and think so far into the future that you lose sight of what you’re doing now, in the present. Spend your time pay attention to the talent around you and learning how to implement your version of it. Whatever your craft, focus on how to perfect it, how to do it creatively, and how to be the absolute best at it. The rest will follow.
Check out our conversation to find out about his advice for young professionals...and a forecast on what we should be planning for.
Such a pleasure to have the opportunity to speak with Mr. Roth. Entirely lovely, present, and engaged. Thanks to all that were involved. (Except Rihanna, who’s singles we hear blasting through the speakers for the bulk of the conversation. I suppose that’s not really her fault, though.)
