Interrogative words in Bengali

who - কে (ke)

এর লেখক কে? (er lekhôk ke?) - Who is it’s writer?

whose - কার (kār)

এই বইটা কার? (e'i bo'iṭā kār?) - Whose book is it?

what - কি (ki)

এই বইটার শীর্ষক কি? (e'i bo'iṭār śīrṣok ki?) - What’s the title of this book?

where - কোথায় (kothāy)

ঐ বইটা কোথায় আছে? (oi bo'iṭā kothāy āche?) - Where is that book?

when - কখন (kôkhôn)

এই বইটা কখন ছাপা হয়ে ছিল? (e'i bo'iṭā kôkhôn chāpā ho’e chilo?) - When was the book published/printed?

why - কেন (kæno)

আপনি এই বইটি কেন লিখেছেন? (āpni e'i bo'iṭi kæno likhechen?) - Why did you write this book?

how - কেমন (kæmôn)

এই বইটা কেমন? (e'i bo'iṭā kæmôn?) - How’s this book?

Interrogative Words - კითხვით სიტყველბი

ვინ - Who?

რა - What?

ვისი - Whose?

რამდენი - How many?

სად - Where?

საიდან - Where from?

საითკენ - Where to?

როგორ - How?

როდის - When?

როგორი - What?

რომელი - Which?

რატომ - Why?

The beautiful thing about asking questions in Georgian is the intonation and it follows a system : Interrogative + verb + other parts of the question.

Example: რა გქვია* შენ? - What is your name? 

*The verb გქვია (your name is ) changes its form according to its objective person markers i.e. it is a verb of the objective order.

interrogative words v: いくら-ikura- how much?

We already saw the numbers but we don't know yet how to ask for the price of something.  You might want to read also "this and that" texts (we will use them here).  Asking "how much" is not complicated at all.  これ　は　いくら　です　か。  kore wa ikura desu ka.  How much is this?  You can use this with any noun you want:  すし　は　いくら　です　か。  sushi wa ikura desu ka.  How much is sushi?  この　シャツ　は　いくら　です　か。  Kono shatsu wa ikura desu ka.  How much is this shirt?  I hope these examples are enough. interrogative words iv: だれ-dare- who?

わたし　は　だれ　です　か。 watashi wa dare desu ka? (lit.) Me/I (topic particle) who to be/is (question particle) Who am I?

だれ-dare- is the word for "who". This is a little bit tricky, like with "like and hate" text we might have to use the particle が-ga-.

Let me try to give an example...

With what we know so far about particles we can ask:

だれ　は　クッキー　を　たべましたか？ dare wa kukkii wo tabemashita ka. Who ate the cookies?

Grammatically it has no problems but it doesn't sound 100% natural.

When we want to ask who does something using が-ga- is better:

だれ　が　クッキー　を　たべましたか。 dare ga kukki- wo tabemashita ka?.

Let's say that が-ga- is the action particle for people. When someone does something we have to use が-ga-

クッキー　は　だれ　が　たべました　か。 kukkii wa dare ga tabemashita ka. (lit) cookies (topic particle) who (ga) ate?

And as you may imagine the answer uses the same pattern:

クッキー　は　やまもとさん　が　たべました。 kukkii wa Yamamoto san ga tabemashita. Yamamoto san ate the cookies.

Or simply:

やまもとさん　が　たべました。 Yamamoto san ga tabemashita. Yamamoto san ate them.

interrogative words iii: いつ-itsu-: When?

Now that we already saw the months, days of the month and days of the week I believe it's time to go ask "いつ？-itsu?-" (when).

A: たんじょうび　は　いつ　ですか。 A: Tanjoubi wa itsu desu ka. A: When is your birthday?

We can answer something like:

B: わたし　の　たんじょうび　は　しがつ　ついたち　です。 B: watashi no tanjoubi wa shigatsu tsuitachi desu. B: My birthday is on April 1st.

いつ-itsu- can be used without a particle:

A: いつ　にほん　へ　いきますか。 A: itsu nihon he ikimasuka? A: When will you go to Japan?

B: らいねん　の　さんがつ　に　にほん　へ　いきます。 B: rainen no sangatsu ni nihon he ikimasu. B: I will go on March of next year.
