“The thing about theatre in particularly, is that you have a conversation with 850 people every night and I think what Marianne set out to do...I was lucky enough to be in the workshop and from the get go was to make a vital and immediate piece of theatre which reflect society, which is what the original production of Company did so well, I think in the late 60s and early 70s. So for it to be that immediate and to be a part of something with the gender swapping, expecially for me playing a gay character, and not to underestimate the political impact, but expecially talking to people afterwards and people represented by it, it’s been extraordinary.”

“Theatre is a dialogue between 150 people and the people who are on stage. It’s always going to be different every night and everchanging storytelling, and it’s always far more interesting. You  come away as a performer but also when I go to see theatre, knowing it’s never going to be quite the same again, it is the reason why for me if I don’t do theatre for a long time, I can be tweaky. It’s just not the same than getting behind the camera.”

“In the original production Amy was Bobby’s best friend and on her wedding day she gets the jitters, she gets cold feet, and sing quite a famous song which is basically anxiety, a panic attack in its purest form, in music form. It was an amazing decision that came quite late on in their process, Chris Harper, the producer, whose I think it was his idea in the first place, he was sort of the machine behind it, he really pushed for Amy to be Jamie. And it’s like a searing portrayal now, withouth changing any words of a gay identity and what it is now to be able to commit to marriage and to live an heteronormative ideal, when essentially gay men have been born into a world where they are been made to feel that they wouldn’t be able to, even though it’s a very much human thing. I think it resonates politically and with the audience expecially. It’s been an amazing thing to perform for me personally, in my experience.”
