🚦and 🛐??
🚦 — kidfic escape au (cw implied child abuse)
In the hotel, things feel safe. They don't have to worry about their father coming in at any moment to ruin anything, they don't have to worry about making too much noise, they don't have to worry that things will come crashing down.
Instead, they do things normal kids do. They watch television sometimes with Mama, they eat burgers together that they couldn't afford before, they play hide and seek sometimes. Mama laughs for the first time in awhile when Jenny gets Jack with a pillow, and Penny seems happier around them, still too reluctant to speak.
Jack feels a lot less like a Shepard now, and he thinks that's good.
🛐 — snake cult au (w/angela)
Ponyboy has been mixing colors for five minutes now and Angela is impatient. It was just a color, why was he being so specific? She chews at her lips, and finally, Ponyboy leans back. "I got it! That's the color."
She looks at what he's made: it's a rich blue color, made from the cheap school paints they have. Angela looks from it to the oversized not exactly bird house that was starting to make her think of a dollhouse. "How are we supposed to paint all of it that color?"
"Just the outsides, not the roof. The roof is gonna be white," Ponyboy pulls his auburn hair up, and Angela feels a pang of envy at how nice his hair is. "I'll remember how to make it. C'mon this is gonna be real easy."
She dips her brush into the paint, and starts to paint it on, still curious. "Just what are we making, Curtis."
"Ain't Curtis, it's Atreides," he says, using his own brush to scoop up a dollop of the blue paint, taking to his task in long strokes. "It's a shrine." When Angela doesn't seem to know what that is, he clarifies, "Like a — a mini temple or a church to someone. Mary, actually."
The little amount of times Angela has gone to church finally pings. "The — That's who were making this for?"
Ponyboy keeps up his steady strokes. "Yeah. I couldn't bring my old one, so this'll do for my new one. And we'll get a good grade on it just as soon as we get other stuff to put in there."
That's all Angela needs to hear, tuning out as he continues painting. She probably should've paid attention to the part where he'd said, We have to find a perfect snake for her, too.
