How often do you get up on stage nowadays? What's the comedy scene like where you live?
Right now I am rehearsing every week and performing about twice a month. I'm primarily performing improv and am not doing much stand up these days.
For those of you who don't know what good improv is, here is an example.

I actually got to open for these guys a few years ago. One of the best nights of my comedy career.
The comedy scene in Portland, OR, is not bad. There are three main improv theaters (one of which I helped open) and two main stand up comedy clubs. One of the guys I perform improv with is also an amazing stand up comic and he recently opened for Norm MacDonald at the Helium Comedy Club. But to be honest, it's pretty tough to make a living from comedy here in Portland.
This is why I have taken my act to the Internet. For the time being, family life is keeping us here in Portland. I get to perform several times a month, and that feels great. But if I'm ever going to get to a place where I can do comedy full time, (instead of working 8-12 hours, spending time with family, and then only having a couple hours left for comedy) I'm going to have to find a larger audience.
And that's my goal with this blog.
