Okay Erin. Sophie’s choice: Vendredi 20h27 or Samedi 9h17?
Alright, it’s after midnight, let’s do this. You didn’t specify which Vendredi 20h27, but I think you already knew my answer. (y’all this is so long, I’m sorry)
It’s Vendredi 20h27. Forever and always. If I could only watch one clip for the rest of forever, it’s this one.
Let’s begin: They’re running down the street like children, literally and figuratively running away from the constraints and relationships that have been forced upon them, after they’ve subtly (and not so subtly in Eliott’s case) admitted to one another that they wanted a date night, just the two of them.
Once they’re in, which is a little sketchy for Lucas, Eliott is holding the light. He’s in control here. He’s the one who brought Lucas to his place, his refuge, his safe haven, and Eliott is in control of how much he shares with Lucas. Lucas catches on, sort of, when he’s questioning Eliott about bringing someone to his special place. And Eliott’s just like ‘yep, you the one.’ And then they turn and Lucas gets it. It’s Polaris. The headshake/shrug thing Lucas does when it clicks is honestly one of my favorite moments. It’s heavy, holding someone’s secret, having them be vulnerable like that. It’s A LOT.
Side note: Lucas is NERVOUS. He’s breathless throughout, kind of giggling a lot but it’s stuttered because he’s got butterflies. Again, it’s A LOT.
I think he stops breathing when he recognizes the tunnel, and doesn’t start again until Eliott literally runs to him to bring him into the tunnel/under the bridge. Then he’s short of breath again. But he’s so polite? He thanks Eliott for welcoming him into his refuge. He’s acknowledging how important this must be, while still being cheeky and flirty.
And then the dance. (Which could totally be out a horror film if set to the right music, btw.) I’d have to dissect this a bit more, but I wonder what Eliott’s original plan was in bringing Lucas here, and if it was always “pas peur” but I’ll have to think on that. So the dance, with Eliott controlling the light still. It quickly goes from playful to tense once Lucas admits he’s a little afraid. Afraid of the dark, afraid of the unknown, afraid of what it means to like and want to be with Eliott. But Eliott wants. And he’s been challenging Lucas, to see if would enter the darkness and follow Eliott. Be in it with Eliott. The not!kiss is the defining factor for Eliott I think. The sigh Lucas releases after Eliott turns off the flashlight and backs away? Mmhmm. So then we see Eliott standing in the rain, waiting for Lucas to make the next move. And our brave brave Lucas? Totally follows through.
Eliott’s recognition that Lucas knows what Polaris is. Their fingers slowly sliding together. Them staring at their hands. The quirks of their lips because they know what’s about to happen. Their palms squeezing together. Lucas slowly venturing out into the rain and then all at once throwing himself at Eliott.
Followed by the first kiss to end all first kisses. With smiles, forehead touching, lip biting, Lucas’ almost butt grab (he knew what he wanted) and Lucas burying himself into Eliott’s neck.
Honorable mention to the music editing of course, because it solidifies the clip.
So I mean...this clip is ok, I suppose.
