I Used to Be Able to See the Moon

I used to look out my window and see the moon— I used to understand how vast it was, how small and fleeting I am in the grand scheme. I used to breathe and slow the beating of my heart. But now the buildings and clouds block what’s happening outside of me. The walls close in, burying my small anxieties beneath their weight.

I work a minimum wage job at a TV broadcaster. We air old nostalgia trip shit, and my job is to make sure these old shows and movies dont have offensive stuff or audiovisual errors before we air them. We recently started on the Addams Family (this entails two coworkers and I dividing up the eps and watching the entirety of a show) and I cannot stop thinking of “when you eating some oreoes” when I watch it.

Thank you for sharing this with me, I’m glad I could make that impact on your life. Also I wish your job wasn’t minimum wage because having to watch the entirety of Addams Family should net you a livable wage, imo.

I read this week on Wikipedia that Lou Ferrigno was bullied a lot for his hearing impairment and resulting speech impediment, so he became obsessed with power and would read Hulk and Spiderman. And that ultimately led to him bodybuilding. Which led to him getting the part as... the Hulk.

have you ever considered like doing longer pieces of writing and submitting them to publications? anytime you post about politics or mental health its very incisive

I’d love to do published longform work and there are indeed things I feel like I can speak endlessly about, but I also feel like I presently don’t have the polish to pursue representation in any particular publication... I appreciate the sentiment however :) I’m glad that some people like to read the things I noodle on about

What’s something a stranger has said or done that you will never forget?

i’ve definitely talked about this but the night it was announced COVID was in the US i was out at a goth bar with a big group of people for karaoke. not only did a person experiencing homelessness pass me a joint for putting money in his hat, he just straight up gave me a nug. and then in the actual bar, this dude said he got rich or something and was flying around the world and chilling. he let me hit his weed pen and then sang clint eastwood PLASTERED. i think about this a lot

runner-up: literally 2 days ago i was sitting on an overpass eating lunch and this person came up to me asking if i saw their friend walk by to which i replied no. they then asked “are you gay?” and i for some reason felt confident enough to say i was trans and they came in and hugged me and said “happy pride, girl.” it was really sweet
