Theory

Resilience = integrity + health.

The resilience of peri-urban landscapes are dependent on the resilience of the surrounding landscapes (urban and rural).

Is this true?       First response - no.

Examination

Dependent vs Independent

Interdependent vs Intradependent

Cities seem to be dependent upon input to function (Dross is the result- thank you Mr Berger for such a lovely word). But this dependency is intra (within) dependent. i.e. cities are autonomous, independent, functional entities.... (assumption)

Peri-Urban Landscapes thus are also dependent upon input to function, but this dependency is inter (among) dependent.  i.e. PULs are truly dependent upon the input from within and, moreso, outside its entity to function.

Thus - the above statement is true. But resilience must be examined as it may present subtle conflicts.
