#OnThisDay September 17, 1975 @Scorpions & @ulijonroth released their third studio album #InTrance. Now we move on to the Scorpions InTrance. It's always tough for me to decide which album is best of the ulijonroth era of the Scorpions. All four studio releases are great. If I had to narrow it down it might come down to "In Trance" or “VirginKiller” (or depending what side of the bed I woke up on, it could be “FlyToTheRainbow” or “TakenByForce” also.) Anyways instead of writing a paragraphs of comparisons, let's just recognize what makes "In Trance" great. While I love the later Matthias Jabs era of the Scorpions, there was something magical with the Roth era. This album was more darker than the previous "Fly To The Rainbow," but it would also be more subtle. While the Scorpions were the masters of the power ballads in the 80's, I wouldn't define some of these songs power ballads. Songs like "In Trance," "Living And Dying," "Life's Like A River" and "Evening Wind" were mellow, dark and heavy all in the same breath. Definitely brilliant composed songs by Ulrich Roth and Rudolf Schenker. You have your trade mark Scorpions rockers like "Top Of The Bill" and "Robot Man" as well as "Dark Lady" which is co sang by Roth and Klaus Meine that also unleashes Roth's amazing guitar work. Same could be said about my album fave, "Longing For Fire." While I spent my high school years getting acquainted with the Scorpions in the beginning with Lovedrive and Blackout, it was listening to "In Trance" & "Virgin Killer" late night/early Sunday mornings on @ronquintana6’s Rampage Radio show on @kusforg that made me realize that the Scorpions were more than the radio album oriented metal approach of the Jabs era.
