Gord Downie - “Wolf’s Home”

Going through stuff from 2018 made me think back quick to 2017, and this song, which I hadn’t listened to in a little while. But it’s still just as devastating a year later, and that’s probably only going to deepen as the years go on.

I’m not kidding when I say that I’ve been listening to this record for four straight days. I did not expect to be so sucked into these songs, but they all suck me in and knock me out with a feather’s touch.

I watched the Tragically Hip documentary Long Time Running again tonight. It’s so sad but so uplifting at once, and it just hits so hard. Even if I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Hip and don’t understand all of the incredibly specific Canadian callbacks in the music.

With all that said, Gord Downie’s last solo album, Introduce Yerself, which came out just after he died and was recorded while he knew he was running out of days, is one of those that’s slowly intoxicating. The first time through, I wasn’t quite sure what I was listening to, but now it just sucks me in as I go deeper into these songs he wrote for his friends.
