born and raised in daegu, south korea, she was immediately baptized into her church in her hospital room at only three days old.
she grew up in a neighborhood consisting of fellow members of the church, it was all she’s ever known. she grew up with the communities kids, calling people auntie and uncle despite not being blood related to them.
she grew up and mirrored her environment, placing her entire identity in the verses they read during sermon and even going so far as to joining their choir.
when her father was promoted to pastor when she was 20, they sent him and the family to seoul in order to recruit more people into joining.
now less sheltered and able to be exposed to different lifestyles in a bigger city, she slowly began to realize how strange things were and how suspicious her parents were when it came to the church.
seeing her reluctance in being as involved as she once was, her family forced her to join the youth group who would walk around schools to try and convince people their age to join. for a while she was content in her parents approval and saw everything as harmless.
it wasn’t until her father left his office door open and she happened upon banking documents, thousands upon thousands of dollars being “donated” to not only the church but directly to her father’s name. she continued to snoop through his things, reading his emails and finding correspondence about numerous horrible things that goes on within her church’s walls.
she confronted her father about this, to which he admitted to everything and knew what he was doing, but emphasized that it’s god’s will and he was only a messenger. she turned her back on him and her family, and decided to pack up her things and leave. her father let her, not saying anything to his wife until the day after.

the first place she thought to go to was busan, where her paternal grandparents lived. they weren’t involved in the church and were the only family she knew she could trust. they helped her by giving her a small sum of money to take care of herself but knew that her parents would be looking for her and it wasn’t safe to stay with them. they told her of a little town an hour away, one where they knew a friend of a friend that could get her a job right away.
she stayed at the inn for a few weeks before meeting kwon inna, the teahouse owner, and was more than grateful when she offered a spare room in her home.
her initial job was at the fish farm but after an accidental interview with the chief reporter, was given the job of staff at the ilbo on the spot (probably due to the fact that they are severely understaffed but, she appreciates it nonetheless kajdkajsd). she promptly quit her job as a fisherfolk and, after apologizing profusely, said her goodbyes to the smell of tuna.
currently, she's in charge of lifestyle articles: what do single twenty three year old women seek fulfilment from? she often explores busan to find inspiration for her mini articles, and after sitting on the idea for a few months now, made the decision to one day write an article about her personal experience in her "church"

surprisingly not as demure as people may initially think!! she’s definitely an extrovert, used to talking up people back in her recruiting days, and was often surrounded in groups of other kids her age, often being the "mom friend" amongst them all.
often thrives in group settings, finds one on ones to be too intimate for her comfort. you would have to be a close friend of hers for her to consistently hang out often with just you two alone. she'd prefer masking her personality to be amicable / likable to other people than struggle to keep the spotlight off her on one on one sessions
so yes she is relatively guarded, understandably so considering everything she's ever known was a lie and the two people she thought she could trust the most are actually horrible people. but you know!
is the overbearingly motherly type. carries band aids and extra water bottles in her tote bags in case of an emergency.
can be kind of gullible?? and curious. but only because she doesn't really know any better. most of her morals are based off an ancient book that she's come to hate so really its as malleable as wet clay right now.
she is very much a libra, air headed, living in her own world, but very set in her ways of justice. she always wants to see both sides of a situation and believes in giving the benefit of the doubt. her old friends would always go to her for advice whenever something went wrong.
despite her good intentions, she can often be judgmental, often comparing people to this idea of a good samaritan and sometimes shames people for their mistakes. its a hard habit she's trying to shake but its a work in progress.
cares too much about what people think of her and will go out of her way to ensure that you think she is a nice person and hates the idea of someone disliking her.

Hello everyone!! Call me Jess (she/her), I’m really excited to finally bring this character to life, I’ve truthfully been thinking about a character like Taeri for a long time and I’m happy I found a place to introduce her in!
Personally, I think writing is not one of my biggest strengths, but I greatly enjoy developing a character, whether it’s through trials and tribulations, or good and bad relationships, I really like to sit and carefully figure out my character to their very core. However, like in real life, a big part of figuring yourself out comes with making connections; negative, positive, people who just breeze by, who just stop to say hello, people you want to watch drag race with, or people you met once but you still ended up following on social media and now you don’t remember who the fuck they are! So yes, by all means I would love to explore any type of connections with any of you and I’m more than looking forward to it!
Now I’m gonna be real with y’all, Taeri is going to be hard to deal with in the beginning. She’s still grieving her girlfriend, she’s lost her job, and now she’s back at her hometown in Yunhwa having to deal with her family as the oldest daughter once again (oldest daughters out there... y’all know damn well what I’m talking about). So yes, at this point in her life, she wears her bitchy, judgemental attitude everywhere and she’s kind of a hard nut to crack through, still not really having fully processed the sharp shifts her life has taken in the past year. If any of you like a bit of a challenge, she’s definitely your girl!

nam minah. 26 years. freelance artist. she was actually born and mostly raised in yunhwa! but moved to seoul for high school and then to paris to attend an art college/school because she actually got an scholarship, so there is where she was living (still sort of is) until she decided to visit her family in yunhwa.
lives in sunjaro street, above the tavern with a roommate actually! (i'll submit a wc about it later) since she didn't want to impose at her parents' house because her sister still lives there. she's working on their relationship with baby steps.
the epitome of being there for the fun and experience, that's basically the reason why she does 99.9% of the things that she does. isn't afraid to try new things (and is usually good at them even in her first try) or do adventurous things, so you know, call her to do anything and high chances she'll always say yes.
very chill and friendly, good at small talking. social skills above 8000 and is mostly minding her business unless for some reason you make your business her business.
seems like an airhead, but she really is not. she's actually pretty smart (pls, look at her perfect grades even during high school) and is very perceptive of her surroundings and people in general.
sort of fickle with anyone that isn't part of her family. she gets attached to people as easily as she gets detached which could affect some friendships and especially romantic relationships (especially when she goes through some of them because she was just curious to where it'd lead), but she's always sincere and doesn't really lead anyone on (idk if this makes sense?? hope it does)
lowkey famous in the art community (so any fans?? as a possible plot??) and she has a couple of important awards that she won back at her apartment in paris. once she was very proud of them but now they sort of feel like a burden.
is going through a very hard artist block and that's why she decided to come back to yunhwa to sort of try to reconnect with her roots and to try to make amends with her sister so talking about which—
they have a very rocky relationship to say the very least. whether it was the case or not, minah was always treated as the favorite daughter in one way or another because she was the pretty daughter and the one good at everything, so her little sister ended up on her shadow more often than not. that made her resent minah a lot even when minah tried her best to save it.
she has always shown a little more affinity to the arts, especially painting, since she was young even if she was basically good at everything that she tried (and since she has always been the curious type, she tried a lot of things) so her parents sent her to seoul to live with an uncle so she could have more chances to explore her affinity with the arts.
her sister, feeling like she'd be left behind, decided to go as well even if she was still in middle school. a long argument ensued, but they both ended up going to seoul. the uncle didn't really... care for them or looked after them that well, he left them alone a lot so minah sort of took charge. besides getting busy with part times so her parents didn't need to spend too much money on her and her sister's lives in seoul.
got more recognition during high school for her paintings and even won some competitions which got her into an art college/school in paris, france after her graduation. sort of settled in there until her art block started and here she is in yunhwa again.
fun fact: got scouted for an entertainment agency during high school but refused the audition because one she was already busy enough as she was and two she never dreamed of being an idol anyway, at that point already having decided to pursue an artistic career, but she does like to wonder sometimes what would've happened if she had been to the audition and got accepted.

BACKGROUND.
just up until a month ago, yeol was the it boy of south korea; his face was plastered across every billboard, magazine and television screen
he debuted in 2015 and rose to fame a year within his debut, his popularity exceeded the rest of group so his company started to heavily promote him
he made his solo debut in 2018, which did way better than any of his group releases so while his popularity went through the roof, the rest of his members remained below the radar
his fame and success got to his head and it doesn’t help that he was the only child in a broken family, one that grew up craving attention and validation from his emotionally unavailable parents
his mother was a hardcore gambler and his father eventually left them when he decided he had enough, leaving yeol under the care of his toxic mother
he was scouted by his company when he was twelve and his mother pushed for him to be a trainee as she thought he’d make a lot of money as an idol
his growing fame only took a toll on him as he dealt with greater expectations and pressure from his company; he was meant to release a solo album at the start of the year but is currently going through a slump, unable to write any new songs
he was facing a lot of emotional distress, which resulted in burnout and anger management issues
after gaining success in his career, his mother started asking him for money but he refused to give her any as he knew she’d gamble it away
there was a particular incident when he got off a nasty phone call with his mother and vented his anger on his manager
someone saw it happen and rumours about his attitude problem started spreading online; netizens were angered and people started to boycott him
in hopes of calming the storm, his company announced his hiatus and he was sent to yunhwa, for him to reflect and take his mind off things
it certainly isn’t easy for a prima donna like him to move to a small town so I’d assume that he’ll wreck a bit of havoc and maybe liven things up a bit? LOL
he definitely wants to get out of here asap but isn’t allowed to until he writes new songs, good enough for a redeeming comeback to fix his image (whether or not this changes, we’ll have to see)
he is actually still on good terms with his manager (who do you think he’s constantly ranting to on the phone? LMAO think shane gray complaining about his lack of hair product in camp rock)
he does not get along with his members who believed he was planning to leave the group to go solo (it’s true), he was often seen alone, which didn’t help with his diva image (it might be the same here at yunhwa too though I’d definitely like for him to make some genuine connections that he lacks back at home!)

a motherly or fatherly figure since he really lacks that; sometimes he just wants to be stroked on his head, or to be told that he did well
likewise, sibling/familial-like ties would be nice too, he grew up really lonely with a deficit for love and affection so he’d die for some of that, might even make him like it here so much he doesn’t wanna go back

- taejun was born and raised in yunhwa on his grandparents tangerine farm! while his grandparents run the farm, his parents work in the business sector of busan.
- (has a sibling,, although i haven't decided if they're older or younger for any connections!)
- grew up spending a lot of time on the farm and swimming at the beach.
- was a regular kid, with his stubborn and energetic nature. he was always running around and playing with neighborhood friends. did well in school and even better with sports!
- despite messing around a lot, he never got into any serious trouble, mostly just playful banter and jokes
- after his first year in high school, his father was promoted and so the family moved up to seoul while his grandparents stayed in yunhwa
- taejun continued school up to graduation and was offered an athletic scholarship to uni for swimming
- wanting to focus on his athletic career in one go, he decided to get his military duties out the way first
- after he finished serving, he went straight to uni and started training for competitions!! and he did really well with training actually!
- tw: near the end of his first year though, he gets into an accident while riding the bus home one night after a long night of training. of the five passengers on the bus, he's the only survivor and falls into a coma
- he's in his coma for about a year and when he wakes up, he's told that he won't be able to continue swimming competitively anymore and it honestly kind of makes him feel very lost because he doesn't know what else he'd do aside from that
- two months after waking up, he's in physical therapy and his parents encourage him to go back to school to continue getting a degree but the only thing is he's completely lost
- and he's not quite sure how to process all the information of having been in a coma for one year and the only survivor of five on that bus
- so he decides to go to yunhwa to live with his grandparents and help them out on their farm.
- while he also gets physical therapy in busan, he's basically just a farm hand and trying to figure out what he wants to do next
- has been in yunhwa for two months now,, so he’s only been up for four months since waking up!

— Han Gisu was born on August 9th, 1996 by Han Sunhee (F) with an unknown father in Yunghwa, making him a native. Han Sunhee worked as a server at a local breakfast cafe where she used this job as the sole basis on raising Gisu by herself since the father wasn’t in the picture. She often struggled and couldn’t afford a lot of things to give her son the most comfortable of life, but the mother sacrificed as much as she could for him (even if he spent a lot of time in relatives homes for babysitting until he graduated elementary school).
— Growing up, his mother, pushing on the sacrifices, created a white lie about the father figure. She would always tell him extreme tales about the lives his father has saved and how the two met through the cafe like a typical melodrama. She gave him starlit eyes that lighted with false pretenses despite the fire that oh-so-called consumed his father before Gisu’s birth. Although, he never doubted Sunhee. Why would she lie to him anyways? The two always had such a good connection, especially when it came to Gisu picking up his own part time in high school to help aid his mother’s growing age.
— In 2015, Gisu took it upon himself to attend an online school while obtaining acceptance at a firefighter academy in Busan, just like his.. ‘father’ who he wanted to do proud. Being as intelligent and diligent as he always was, the classes came by easy, he passed the academy with flying colors. Gisu originally dreamed of becoming a big time worker in the massive city of Seoul, but he missed home, yearned for it even. Everything he’s ever dreamed or thought of, was back in Yunhwa.
— 2018, he returned to Yunhwa and became part of the local fire department, feeling rather achieved with his life as well as the relationships he’s developed with the others. The job also helped him gain a close connection with all the natives and learn the names of long-term visitors. Although, there wasn’t much.. fires being dealt with. He more so saved cats and old ladies. Maybe that’s how he enjoyed it, right? The ease, the simplicity, the smile of his mother when he treats her to a big fancy lunch.
— Han Gisu grew up extremely quiet. He’s never been one to forcefully socialize himself as he felt like his mother and cousins were enough to get him by, despite how much his mother encouraged him to go about in life. Instead, the boy indulged in video games on his handheld PSP (now Switch). He enjoys simple games like Hades, Animal Crossing, Resident Evil, etc. Mostly solo playing games but he does indulge into LoL and DBD during his free time.
— The previous bullet makes him sort of awkward, but after warming up, Gisu can become a sweet comedian that likes making people laugh. Just a warning, he’s a bit impulsive, especially when it pertains to his job as he has a hard time following guidelines.
— Muscle addict. No one in his department cares about their fitness or diet as much as Gisu does, no one. He constantly follows a strict eating habit with the desire to reduce his body fat percentage. Only occasionally will he let that diet slip for extreme occasions. He also spends time at the gym at least once a day for three hours in the mornings.

yiseul grew up an only child, her father a school teacher and her mother a stay at home mom, her mother used to make her own jam as a hobby and therefore that made yiseul quite interested in baking pastries throughout her youth.
she was very shy as a child, and had a hard time making friends until she started to share the pastries her mom would make with her.
she fell in love with cooking in middle school but also poetry as well during her literature classes.
she is rather formal, her parents aren’t sure where she got it from, but tend to joke it’s because of her love for historical novels and films
she has a korean lit degree from ewha womans university; she worked a local bookstore and also participated in poetry readings throughout college
went to japan for a study aboard program for two semesters
moved to busan for a job at a food magazine, and her editor is crazy, therefore it wasn’t uncommon for yiseul to be given last minute assignments like tracking mountains or jetting off to a different country to find food to review for her blog
was sent to yunhwa to do a deep dive on traditional korean and organic food and how it’s changing
