Intuitive Intelligence in Leadership
Intuitive intelligence: understanding context and making connections, to make decisions.
“...listen to your own internal voice, and acknowledge your internal reference point, rather than rush to embrace the myriad references and voices of others.”
Leaders:
- sense the whole/big picture, and to take in vast amounts of data from different sources, to determine the decisive points that require collective focus/effort.
- summarize the situation/what is really happening, and make a choice.
A dynamic, fast-changing world will require well-developed intuitive intelligence. Sure, you can arrive at good decisions if you’ve got time to analyze, refine, synchronize, and test against reality. But then there’s the challenge of executing quickly.
The ability to choose and implement quickly will determine your success.
Faster alone, farther together.
It’s not just analytical intelligence. You need emotional intelligence to maintain good relationships; and intuitive intelligence to pull all the strands together in service to a common cause.
A team collectively arrives at choices and decisions better than any one person can do themselves. You need to tap the different perspectives of those on the management team. And, if you can go down to the next levels of the organization and tap the collective intelligence of hundreds/thousands of people, focused on arriving at a single point of conclusion - that’s game-changing.
Developing intuitive intelligence
Where you attention goes, energy flows. Where energy flows, life grows. What you give attention to, you’ll bring to life.
Get the big picture, then concentrate on the few things that make the biggest difference for your goal/intention.
Presence and intention.
1. Presence of mind, to see the whole picture. Get off the dance floor and onto the balcony. Engage all your senses, the whole brain.
> Determine the right question + point of engagement. What is the decisive point we need to understand? Then create a collaborative process around that. Then test your hypotheses with other people. You develop your own sense of context, while tapping into others as well.
> Co-create visions of possibility. Get others to willingly share what they know.
> Develop workable strategies, and a plan that works.
2. Absolute clarity on your intentions. Orient every thought process around that intention.
